Not quite 80$ good

Fantastic. Probably the only good western game this year, depending on how Deus Ex turns out.

This

If you got burned by the beta, give it another chance after a price drop; the SP and MP are completely different entities.
>>
8/10 good game desu. Haven't played the multi or snapmap much.

One thing I didn't like was the boss fights could have been better as opposed to just big bullet sponges.

Single Player is good, I'd wait for a price drop though.

MP was shit in the beta, haven't even bothered after release.
>>
>>341802852
Multiplayer is meh. Bad blend of arena shooter and CoD.

Single player is fan-fucking-tastic, though fairly easy until nightmare where everything hits like a truck.

The level editor is decent if you care about it, though not really a game-selling feature. Multiplayer on custom levels is dead so forget about that unless you invite friends.
>>
MP is honestly pretty good, I just hope id holds their promise when they say they'll fix it and support it properly on PC. With a few tweaks it could be amazing.
>>
>>341802852
Come for the single player, stay for the single player.

Try and be a sadistic bastard and play Ultra Nightmare No upgrades or runes
>>
I played the demo and the glory kills are even more annoying than I thought they'd be.

>Just ignore them

First of all, the game clearly isn't balanced around ignoring them, and second of all, it seems like flashing enemies get added damage resistance or something because it actually takes a hell of a lot more damage to kill them for an enemy who's supposed to be on death's door, so you just end up wasting ammo and time when the game expects you to just walk up and glory kill.

The animations are short but they still only took about 5 minutes to start getting on my nerves.

Everything else seems alright though, but I'm not going to buy it anytime soon.
>>
>>341802852
We hate it. Now go away.
>>
Single Player is easily the best SP FPS campaign in years, but I can only play it in 2 level bursts or else I get burnt out easily.

Multiplayer is okay. It's nothing special at all. It's a decent distraction if I feel like keeping occupied for a quick 15-20 minutes.

Level Editor seems really cool but I've never been into them in any game. Some of the custom levels I have played have been really awesome though... and they will only get better with the extra features and with people learning this shit.
>>
>>341803313
What kind of third world shit hole do you live in that games cost $80 dollars?
>>
>>341802852
It's crap

a lot of /v/ are heralding it as a return to form because they want to be part of such things as "real fps". It is not a return to form and it is not a real fps.

It plays like an exact combination of painkiller, serious sam, and any modern new age shit game where you press a button to automatically execute an enemy.

The enemy executions DO fuck up the pace of the game completely

multiplayer could've been passable. here's to quake.
>>
Got it for $30 yesterday using jew tactics. It's really great, but too easy on the hurt me plenty difficulty, at least up to the point where I am when the portal to hell is opened
>>
>>341804746
I feel looking for secrets kills the pace a lot more than the executions. But I only use executions when I really need it.

yeah secrets are not natural they are entire other paths and shit and it doens't feel right at all. i gave up on looking for them after 2 levels because it feels like an entirely different game and completely kills the momentum of playing the level

the SP just wasn't good and i hate seeing everyone like it. people are liking it here becasue they want to like it, the same way /v/ hates half the shit they hate, because they want to hate it.

its painkiller. and painkiller wasn't fun enough to play through. yet i just played 2 new map packs i downloaded for quake1...

But games cost less in shitholes
>>
Pros
>shootan
>good gameplay flow, rip and tear to survive
>Mick Gordon
>exploration
>visuals
>sounds
>enemies are plentiful and faithful to originals
>there's logs and a codex if you want it
>fully customizable and comprehensive options
>neat little touches like Terminator 2 thumbs

Cons
>hefty PC requirements, although I'm a poorfag so whatever, I'm behind everyone else
>multiplayer is not engaging at all, doesn't feel right
>SnapMap is weird; no truly original ideas can be made, although it offers many options it will always feel basic
>being amazed by a fun, competent, kinetic shooter in 2016 shouldn't be a big deal but it is
>>
>>341806309

Good game. Thought the last few levels weren't as inspired in level design as the levels in the first half of the game but otherwise a fantastic fps experience. 8.5/10
>>
>>341802852
8/10 bretty gud.

Single player is terrific but I'm not sure about $60 terrific. If they add proper modding to the game I would say it's worth $60 then.

Serious Sam 3 did executions pretty well.
It was only on a few, mostly weak enemies, and the game also had a proper melee weapon, allowing you to ignore executions entirely if you don't like them.
>>
>>341806896
It was at 39.99 on the Toys R Us website and they had given me a $10 gift card from when I purchased DS3. So I went to the store and asked for a price match then used the gift card. There $30 DOOM. Of course you won't have the gift card so it's situational, I was saving that baby for the right moment and it paid off

Yeah no, SS3 executions were dog shit and should learn from DOOM executions. In DOOM you at least have to earn the executions, and if you don't execute them in time or shoot em down, they are back it practically full health.

Yes I did, I bought it on release and played the entire series actually. I love SS, but let's not pretend that the melee in SS3 was a good system when it instakilled literally everything save for Scrapjack(You have to weaken him first, so that's good), Hitscan copter, Biomech, and that one witch enemy that picks you up and damages you.

I don't really like FPS games because I hate being surprised by shit coming from behind me, and I'm a faggot who gets the opposite of immersed with first-person because it always always always feels like I'm controlling a gliding camera with a gun attached, instead of an actual character. 3rd-person is much more immersive for me.

But a friend bugged me about it and I downloaded the demo. It was actually pretty fun and I was disappointed when it was over. If I see it on sale this summer I think I might actually pick it up.

I actually really liked the boss battles, you had to learn the patterns and figure out how to dodge each attack. Each boss had enough different moves so that they never just felt like a regular enemy with 20x as much health.
They also didn't feel too bullet spongey, Super Shotty, Guass Cannon and especially the BFG remove chunks of thier health at a time. I also really liked how Spider Mastermind incorporated rudimentary platforming into the fight to avoid the electric floor attack.

Only problem was no final fight against Hayden, it could have been great.
> Hayden with various weapons attached to him
> Plasma Rifle style blaster on right hand
> Shotgun on left
> Powerful straight firing rocket launcher on right shoulder
> arching bombardment style mini-rockets on left
> AOE attacks that radiate from legs (either need to be jumped or crouched to avoid)
> a Jetpack on his back that lets him hover and dash.
> Big blue health bar, but takes no damage from guns
> shooting him enough, however, does stagger him
> all his "attachments" flash blue, you can glory kill them
> you destroy which ever one you targeted and 1/5 of his health disappears
> but a new Red health bar appears underneath the blue one
> pulls out Crucible Sword and uses it one you, this cannot be distroyed
> Hayden uses the crucible to give himself demonic powers, acting as a replacement for whatever attachment you broke
> Red Health bar takes 1/5 damage from all guns
> He continues to stagger and become "glory killable" after enough damage
> with each attachment removed he replaces it with a similar power but made of hell energy and takes an additional 20% damage to the red health bar
> when the Red bar is depleted he is killed and you glory kill him by punching the faceplate in and using the Crucible sword to stab his organic brain
>>

As a standalone FPS shooter game it's pretty good campaign with mediocre multiplayer , 7/10

As a DOOM game it fails to deliver , removing reloading was good but adding upgrading, checkpoints, random respawn enemy location and glory kills just ruin it. This isn't Doom at all

Maybe stop taking so many hits. Even on harder difficulties, it takes maybe another missile or another shotgun blast or two to kill most shit. The glory kills are a trade off for not having to memorize where health packs are and go back to pick them up if you fuck up. Making it so enemies can shit out health as needed also allows them to make the player take much more damage on average and put them closer to death sooner if they fail to play well.

The problem is that a lot of modern shooters aren't kinetic. They don't go fast. They feel sluggish, almost tanky even in comparison to DOOM or DooM/Doom2.

When the focus in games shifted to wanting experiences and narrative and more realism, the gameplay directly suffered because pretty, realistic environments are environments that take time to make, a lot of time and money, and as a result the game is slowed down because map design takes so much fucking time and money. The length of the game is shortened, and the player has to move at a more realistic speed to boot, and mobility options are limited, and so on.

Conversely, the simpler a game is visually, more time and money can be put into extending the game's levels, adding more gamey elements to them to make them feel less hollow, and the player can be allowed to go faster and move more easily in less realistic environments. Not being constrained by story also helps.

DOOM has a LOT of time and money behind its development, which is why it gets away with playing as good as it does while also looking as good as it does. Lesser developers wouldn't get away with that.
