different anon. among the tales protagonists whose games i am familiar with, yuri comes off has having both the most shallow and most vague character developement. that being said, ive only played four tales games: symphonia, vesperia, and both xillias. with that aside, i will say this.
the other 3 protagonists experienced growth in their character via how they viewed their goals with regards to the main conflict of their games and how they wished to better themselves.
lloyd went from wanting to help his friend save the world to not having to sacrifice anyone to save the world to doing away with discrimination and giving up old grudges.
Jude went from running away from authorities wanting to arrest him on false accusations to wanting to help mia accomplish her vague mission to wanting to protect mia and his other friends whiel ensuring that people can use their abilities and devices without bringing meaningless harm to the spirits.
Ludger went from having to pay off a bullshit dept by being a cross dimensional troubleshooter to saving the god damn world, like 4 gods, and his cross dimensional troubleshooter daughter, and he also learned how to man up, make difficult decisions and bear with the consequences.
yuri went from wanting to protect people who were being abused by systems of authority and power to preventing others from abusing their power and authority to cause harm to those without, and he also decided to cleanse the world of devices that were slowly killing it.

It's still real time action combat but more complex.
How combat works in graces is you have A Artes and B Artes.
A Artes is what your "basic" attacks would be but now have active combo strings which are technically Artes but you can't customize these much.
B Artes are the same special moves that you learn similar to Tales of the Abyss.
Also there's no mana bar in Graces, instead they use something called "CC". CC is basically action points that decrease when ever you use either an A Arte, a B Arte or free running; so you have to actually put some thought into your moves and you can't spam as much. CC recovers when you're not performing any action other than guard (so guard is actually useful) and actually recovers pretty fast making a nice flow in the combat without resorting to spam.
I think it's the best combat system by far and hope they keep useing and improving on it.
They better bring back Indignation in Berseria.

Pretty much exactly how I felt. The equipment/skill system is such ridiculously bad design, it actually punishes you for wanting to upgrade your equipment. I also didn't like that you essentially only had two characters, plus what amounted to summons to fill your party.
Only Tales game to date that I couldn't be assed to finish, and I even finished fucking Tempest. I completely lost interest about halfway through.

You find a sword. It has a good combination of glyphs on it that allows you to get good skills. I got to Chronos 1 without Power Charge 2 and it was one of the most exciting fights, especially when you have to rely on quick stepping and limited AC. Fractured Muzet can go fuck herself though.

Basically every weapon and armor in the game has 4 slots for skills. The first is always the same no matter what depending on the piece but the other 3 are random. The "ultimate" ones are basically blank slates that you can endlessly fuse onto but their attack power is 0.
