Have you guys seen Matthewmatosis' commentary on DMC?
It reminded my why I loved the series and what made the first game so great.

Then it reminded me of DmC and how it got everything wrong

Things that are wrong with DmC gameplay:

1. Button layout -> moveset selection.
Circle is a dedicated high time launcher button on the ground and helmbreaker in the air. This is a waste of face button and severely limit variety of moves one could pull. Compare DMC4 Dante Rebellion movesets with DmC Donte Rebellion moveset. This is due to people complaining about not being able to pull of directional command moves. What you ends up with is a watered down gameplay. Same problem with TWO, fucking TWO dedicated evade buttons. Apparently dodgeroll in original DMC is too hard to pull


2. Repetition on moveset variety
Rebellion, Osiris and Arbiter are essentially the same weapon with slightly alternating speed/damage output. They all have basic stinger, launcher, ground combo A, ground combo B. None of the launcher, stinger, aerial rave from these three weapons have any special property. Compare this to the pin needle explode later mechanic of Lucifer, Gilgamesh where you can Just Charge and distort every hit, and Rebellion basic moveset. All three of them are super unique and have their own techs.

3. Jump cancel does not require any timing
This one requires no explanation. In DMC you have to cancel during hit frame. In DmC it doesn't matter because you can JC without attacking, so Demon pull->JC->Demon pull->JC all the way into the ceiling is a legitimate tactic.

It's timing first then positioning. If you mistime your JC, the animation is not gonna cancel. That's the whole point of jump CANCEL -> you cancel the recovery animation after your hit frame connects.

Positioning is more to link the next attack that you also going to cancel.

Anyway we're getting into details here, the point still stands that DmC a shit

The style meter in DmC works exactly the same as in previous games. It's just broken because Donte's crowd control is way too good and attacking several enemies at once builds extreme meter.

Go and use Nevan's crazy move in DMC3 and you'll have exactly the same result. Only difference is that's pretty much every weapon in DmC.

Lock on serves more than just locking on. It creates an axis in which you can input your directional command.

For example, with just the triangle button Nero can:
1. Start basic ground combo
2. Launcher
3. Stinger
4. Shuffle, which is the back fw special move.

Donte can only:
1. Ground combo
2. Stinger with fw fw input

This also proves the problem with fw->fw input. If your character is jammed pack with other movesets that you need a fw, fw input then fine. But back-fw input is much better and much quicker to pull. To do fw fw you need to tilt your analog stick fw, back to neutral and fw again, yielding in 3 movements total. To do back-fw you just tilt it back and then forward, which means 2 analog stick movement total, which is quicker to pull on reaction.

There's a reason why DmC:DE is still a shit. They think that we need lock on just because we can't aim for shit. Lock on serves way more purpose in DMC than to aim your attack. It allows you to create precise directional input which in turn allows the dev to jam in more movesets and hence more gameplay variety into a single character.

People just believed in an E3 announcement when none of the hints pointed to any of that shit. Capcom's earnings reports mention a new DMC for the end of fiscal 2017, that's basically Capcom saying to investors "Oh yeah we're making more of these."

It's strong evidence more is coming, along with a bunch of other smaller shit that I can't be assed to mention.

It's not about more than one button, it's layout efficiency.

DMC3/4 Dante have both circle and triangle, each with fw, back, and neutral directional command. That's six moves jammed into two face buttons not counting the style, which modifies the circle button. With styles, DMC4 or modDMC3 Dante has 15 moves jammed into two face buttons. Compare this to Donte, he has 3 moves jammed into 2 face buttons because circle is a dedicated launcher and DmC player is too stupid to pull directional command moves

Each weapon in DmC also has a way more limited moveset.

In DMC4 every Dante weapon has an expanded moveset with styles, in DmC it's just the launcher/slam button with the exception of the Aquila.

What's the point of changing weapon if the moveset is the same. Rebellion Osiris and Arbiter are essentially the same weapon, with similar basic moves.

To elaborate on that, even if Donte have six unique melee weapons rather than 3 they're just attacks. What if I want to royal guard block, royal release, turn into dreadnaught, trickster teleport, wall hike, wall run, Sky star, or Mustang (dash into enemy and jump on their face)

Donte literally can't do any of these. Even if I grant you the untrue notion that Donte can do six melee weapons at the same time, all the options he has are attack attack and attack.

Of all of /v/'s accomplishments, I have to say the worst one is bringing the word "entitled" into common use. People use it instead of "self-entitled".
Claiming someone is an "entitled baby" is exactly like saying they are a baby that deserves something.
Self-entitled means the person in questions believes they deserve something.

Every few months a new word or two comes into popularity and is always used incorrectly and it boggles my mind how someone can use a word they don't know and just not ever look up it's meaning.
