I've been carefully thinking about getting a gaming PC, finally deciding against it. Here is my logic:
1. Games worth playing (EU4, Vicky2, Stone Soup, Civ6, Xcom, La Mulana 2) run fine on my 256mb VRAM hunk of crap.
2. Games that are shit (W3, Fallout, literally everything not mentioned above) are what require an upgrade.
3. Future games which might be good are going to be the same dull colorless casualized CPU-overheating shallow unfun garbage that the Xbox One and PC have been plagued with all this time.
I'll be putting my money towards teh NX. It's going to be weak, it's not going to have any multiplats, but what it will have are fun games with intense gameplay which did not have to be comprised to meet the absurd demands of 4k gaming budgets.
Am I mad or does this all seem reasonable to you?

Whenever people purchase things en masse like this they get a bias and figure their purchasing decisions have to be right, so they will shit on others.
By that same virtue the Nvidia downgrade thing is largely false too. It is true they will gimp their older products with the gameworks style things, but the actual drivers are not doing anything.
Nvidia is a very terrible company, but if you don't care about any of that and just want something cheap at 1080p get the 480 not because of religion, but because it's the best offer. AMD doesn't have anything to compete above that, so if you want something better immediately get the 1070 or 1080 when the prices stabilize, or just wait to see what AMD has to offer in competition.
Do NOT opt to get 2 rx 480's. Yes, it's cheaper and on paper may have more performance. The issue is crossfire is shit and often times not even supported at launch and support can be slow coming. Until almost everything is in DX12, this would be a bad option over just one really good card.
Also if you want to wait to see if zen is any good before buying an intel CPU, getting some cheap 8 core AMD CPU if you can get it for ~100 dollars would not be the end of the world and it wouldn't make your games run like absolute trash. There are a few games that are outliers like ARMA 3, but by and large you will be fine.

Single player games are going to use it. If you just play league and multiplayer FPS games you're fine.
"Competitive" games are much easier to optimize, whereas if you're playing something like GTA5 and a bunch of scripted shit has to happen on top of background action you're going to need more than 8gb for sure.

First, I said on paper. Do you know what on paper means? That means the numbers that measure computer performance will compete. That is an objective provable fact measurable in flops.
I then continue to say that even though that is the case, on paper, it may not actually translate to any performance for you because of the problems with crossfire and how dual GPU's don't scale perfectly. (I didn't elaborate, but that should be implied if YOU know what you are talking about.)
Not only that but raw performance doesn't mean anything because if it did the Fury X would be the best performing cost, but something with it's architecture doesn't let it reach 980 ti numbers.

If you just want to play games, I would recommend still getting the i5. HT's are not always going to perform as well as actual cores with all workloads and with Vulkan and DX12 you will be able to better utilize cores continuing on. Also there are other things we always ignore talking about processors with things like cache. Just get the i5.
