New games all feel and look the same, at least in my eyes, the main characters have no uniqueness to them anymore, they literally all look the same and the games all play and look the same and it's just boring as fuck

i dunno, games are about the destination now and not the journey. if they are a journey, they aren't really difficult. No longer do i get "stuck". Theres no great puzzles, theres no boss that requires i achieve great mastery of the game. Boss battles don't feel tense any more. they feel like more like, "I must survive 5 cycles because i do X damage" challenges.

because our generation was the last to have completed games with no advertisements in them save for the booklets nobody read. I really enjoyed GTA 5 for xbox 360 cause I used to pick fights with clans, take myself off radar, c4 a car and pretend to be an npc before jaming them in with the car legging it and detonating it. I can only speak for myself but I've become increasingly aware of how valuable my time is. I'm turning 24 soon and every minute spent playing video games feels like a waste. I could be out learning something, spending time with people, honing some skill (actual, real world skills, not video game skills). I still hop on some games once in a while for 10 minute intervals, make steam badges, and buy new games just to keep up the illusion (to myself and others) that I still enjoy this hobby and that the last two decades of my life weren't a waste.
Now coming to /v/ is something else entirely. That is an addiction that I wish I could break. It, like video games, is not fun anymore, and yet I can't stop coming back. If I ever could I would finally be free.
Lately I've been having a good time with all the video games I'm playing, I'm just getting distracted by other things that are atleast more constructive hobbies.
But I also did just spend most of yesterday playing Bloodborne and EA Battlefront so yea I'm having a good time.
/v/ is too jaded to find enjoyment in things.

True, I played the new DOOM and was bored to tears by it, recently bought Classic DOOM and DOOM 2 and had a blast, just recently I played the first F.E.A.R for the first time, and I loved it, played the evil within, bored to tears once again.
Games nowadays are too hand holdy, everything is so scripted to the point you have so liittle freedom you might as well be watching a movie,

Short version: The good games don't garner enough sales, so game devs don't see much reason to spend lots of time in the development phase. This leads to more games being shit.
Long version: The people who can afford to buy the newest games often have the problem of not having many good games to choose from.
Game development is becoming much more expensive than in years past, and some games are in development for more than 5 years. Couple that with the rampant piracy and it's easy to see why game devs are having a hard time turning a profit.
More game developers are refraining from spending too much time or money producing games, instead opting to make quick cash grabs here and there. The result is numerous HD remakes, games that are incomplete at launch, games with content locked behind paywalls, the list goes on.
In small part, I blame pirates for forcing game companies to take better game development options off the table so they can feed their consumers more shit. If you see a game you like, reward the developer and buy that shit. Tell your friends how much fun you had playing it, or buy a game they recommend to you.

Everything is pointless in the big picture, but you decide the value you assign to something. Videogames are just an entertainment medium and do not really promote further development as a person, which is why a lot of people turn to things they deem to be more "worthwhile" because stuff like learning an instrument or a language is generally perceived to be a more useful skill and thus "worthwhile".
Play a game if there's something that interests you. Time spent having fun is always worthwhile. Just don't try to force yourself or overthink it.
I'm pretty sure we all play less or different games than we used to. Times just change.
