only enjoyment i truly got out of it was the boss fights. 'dungeons' felt like a chore, overworld didn't link up as nicely as it tends to in Zelda.

They did recently implement co-op I think though, which is nice and they're still making updates for it, so they didn't just stop caring about it after release.

Yup, though it is possible online co op might come, at least judging by the fact that they keep updating the game and fix bugs. We'll see though.

Lack of experience/knowledge of programming is my guess. I don't even think it has that much to do with laziness either, it's just that programming in general takes years before you can even consider yourself proficient with it. It's the type of skill that requires you to use it on a regular basis if you want to be good with it.
And usually, indie games tend to be made by young, inexperienced people.
That's my guess at least, I got pretty limited knowledge of programming and I've never tried to make a game so I could be wrong.
