Good news is that you can pick up all of the God of War titles on PS3 for a song through various HD re-releases Sony churned out during the end of the console cycle. It's hard to say. 3 is the most recent major entry and is still flashy today (and had a "more HD" re-release on PS4 recently).

In fact, most games that come out today suck. It only takes a little common sense to understand the odds. Odds are, GoW is going to suck based on how god-awful everything about it already looks. It does not look promising. There's no reason to assume it won't suck, therefore it is the default: it is bad.
Too bad they ruined what little gameplay God of War had.
Sure it was button mashy, but it was visceral and satisfying as well.

I have no idea if the game will be worth a shit, but we do know that the footage presented was chosen precisely because it focused on the new setting and Kratos's relationship with his son. Supposedly the game as a whole will no less emphasize action and big boss fights than games previous. Could Barlog be lying? Maybe, but he also directed God of War II so I have no reason to believe that's the case. I'm reserving judgment until we see more.

If you play on the harder difficulties you'll find that the enemies being more dangerous highlights their difference more. BnB combos still exist, as in any game of its kind, but there's a lot more variety than you give credit for. The game stays fundamentally the same throughout, but so does Ninja Gaiden. And God of War possesses a broader action-adventure focus anyway (especially the first game).

I gave you the reasons for holding off on judging the game. Barlog's statements, the IGN guy who played the demo and his statement that his time with the game was defined by exploration, the fact what we saw was clearly a tutorial--how is that not using my brain? I'm not waiting for Polygon to tell me what to think of the game. I'm waiting for the rest of the game, or at least more footage so I can more thoroughly determine my interest in it.

I played gow3 on one of the harder difficulties and yeah it got boring somewhere around hades even though I beat it, chaos mode didn't change my mind given it seemed like it was the same thing with 1 hp.
I went back to play the other GoW games but I stopped playing them soon after starting given they felt like I've already played them before even though I only played GoW 3 and Chains of Olympus.
I think if GoW 4 was made in the style of GoW 3 the franchise would be driven into the ground, and no one would even talk about it like we're talking about this GoW 4.

Gameplay that more fully explores the mechanics. What we got was just a cut scene that decided to show the audience some mechanics along the way. The troll fight seems like how combat in the game will frequently be, though likely more intense and varied as the game goes on (the HUD showed a weapon indicator for example, suggesting more weapons) and Barlog stressed that the troll was just a typical enemy.

What we've seen doesn't interest me much, though I actually think the new camera system could be promising if what Barlog says is true, though it seems a bit claustrophobic up to the troll fight. The troll fight seemed a lot like fights with the cyclops in previous God of War games. Aside from that I don't really have any opinions.

I'm usually critical to cinematic style games but this shit was executed so damn well, it's all so seamless, and the moment with the deer with the score actually worked really well. They've said that the game will be a bit more open, not open world, but a bit more open so I imagine there will be plenty of gameplay in between the cinematic stuff. I think the lower camera perspective is interesting, I don't think I'd want another hack and slash GoW game. It was always about the spectacle anyway, and this new style will enhance that even more. The combat will probably play out similar anyway, just with more focus on 1v1 battles, so I think this could work. I mean just taking on that troll made it suddenly feel huge and a big threat just because of that ground perspective.
