I don't get how people say TLoU was emotional.
For me, the ending was devoid of emotion and sucked the emotion out of me.
It was this hollow moment where Ellie totally knows that Joel's lying to her, and that's the end of the game.
It's a good ending, but it isn't an emotional one.

The best and most impactful part of the game was the fight as Ellie against the cannibal dude
But it was fucked up by the fact that this regular human being takes a knife to the chest like six times before he dies
Despite the fact that every other human in the game takes exactly one stealth stab to kill
Like "okay, this is a boss fight, so logic goes out the window, fuck you dude"
The rest is sub-Tarantino-tier "look, they're having dialogue about mundane shit nobody cares about, look how realistic it is!"

They seem to have explicitly created a character who is a bad person and is nearly aware of it, but nothing in the game whatsoever supports this theme.
The game is about shooting bad guys.
You shoot them because they're bad.
You are also a very bad guy, and in fact are doing worse things than them.
But you get away with it because you're the protagonist.
Joel gets off scott-free despite the fact that he's suffered so much less than so many others.
There is no overarching theme of "life's a bitch, sometimes bad people get away with it."
It makes the story and characters repulsive for no reason other than to be repulsive.
It serves no point whatsoever other than, ironically, proving the opposite point of what pretentious game reviewers will rave on about.
You wanna talk "ludonarrative dissonance" or whatever the fuck, this is it.
Have a game where you murder hundreds upon hundreds of people who've done nothing worse than you have solely because you're the "hero," here have a trophy, and now we'll trick you into sympathizing with this character even though by all means you should hate him.

Here we go with this word again. There's literally no justification for what the man did. Only the most fedora of philosophical arguments will go THAT far into egoism as to imply the death of humanity is worth your personal feelings.

Those people died for nothing, and all they wanted was to survive just as much as you.

Antihero implies he does the right thing but in an unethical way. The Punisher is an antihero. He fights the villains, but takes the law into his own hands and blows their brains out when that isn't the only way.
Joel is straight up immoral, he forsakes the lives of everyone he's killed and everyone who will die, all just for himself.
The problem is, I can think of maybe only one time that the audience is ever confronted about what they're doing, and that's at the very end when the Firefly woman tells you to stop.
And even then, it really isn't much.
Joel gets away with it and the player gets away without feeling any guilt.
In a highly story-driven game that's all about the emotions, wherein the main character does things any reasonable human being could commit suicide from guilt over, having the player feel no remorse for their actions is the ultimate failure of narrative.

I didn't get much attachment to Ellie at all in game. She didn't get useful as a sidekick until pretty much the end when she jump stabbed people.
I would of saved her for being a person not because she's your new daughter. Lying to her made sense as the recordings, doctors and fireflys mentions she's not the first with sights of resistance to the infection which was not really a lie.
