On a similar vein I hope that fantasy mods for settings like Warhammer, LOTR, etc. are able to do things like magic and magical/giant creatures and mounts better than in Warband, because in Warband almost all "magic" is just a special throwing weapon maybe with some special AOE effects on it and the creatures all look terrible and usually have wonky hitboxes.

Gekokujo is a solid mod even if you're not a total weeb, one of the better complete makeover mods I've seen out there.

I'd love recommendations on good vanilla expansions though, I like the default map and factions there just needs to be more troop and armor variety. Diplomacy is great, but not enough.

Here's a fun one: cannons were introduced in the 12th century in Europe and even earlier in the east. Therefore, given M&B's given technology level based on weapons and armors, it would be completely logical for them to introduce bombards.

Bombard cannons were not set on wheeled wagons due to a variety of factors
1. The metal used had to be made incredibly thick to withstand the gun powder explosion, this made them insanely heavy and incapable of being carriage'd
2. They were muzzle loading and prone to misfire.

Therefore, bombard camps were introduced. These were essentially fixed points where an angled pit was dung for the bombard to be laid. I think the presence of actual firearms between 12th-14th century Europe is why the developers decided to take the game back further in time. Warband if I remember right starts in 1135AD or something right? Certainly there would be a bombard or two lying around unless there was no far East at the time or no connections were made.

I say this because Fire and Sword was a flop of sorts compared to Warband so I think the developers wanted to ignore firearms (Napoleonic Wars not withstanding).

I could be wrong though, maybe they just wanted an excuse to have semi-Roman factions/armor.

Those all sounds solid, and I did see somewhere that the animations have been improved as well to seem a bit more fluid. I really think that's all M&B needed, just a touch more polish and some more core features and that's exactly what Bannerlord seems to be doing.

Well that's a shame because gun powder is fun. It's a good thing to remember that bombard cannons predate actual firearms by quite a while. So there was a time when the only gun powder based weaponry being used was incredibly stationary/slow firing siege cannons and small hand grenades/petards.

Yeah I wouldn't hate bombards at all and I think they would be an awesome siege addition, but people suddenly had guns then we'd just get fire and sword all over again and you could either slaughter 10,000 hussars with a handful of musketeers, or lose to a few villagers with rusty muskets.

I'm sure it could be yeah, modders have done quite a lot with much less. It may still even be possible in game to take down walls themselves with siege equipment, we just don't really know yet. I imagine it might be an issue of balance in game or it might ruin all the work they put into ram/ladder/tower animations if everyone is just going to spam catapults and trebuchets when they can.

Most of the shit talking was from when it got released and was buggy as shit.

I picked it up in 2015 after they 'reworked' it and have spent more time playing it than others. Because of the setting there is little to no Archery or Cavalry so it makes actual infantry / skirmish tactics viable, plus the additional options in managing your units is really nice.

I never played the 'story' mode though, which i see most people talk about. Ship combat is rickety as fuck but still pretty fun.

Although the only thing that confused me was why he didn't lift the very obvious bar holding the gate closed. It would have been cool to see. Still, I've never been so hyped about a sequel before. This improves upon everything we wanted to have improved without trying to be radically different from what made everyone love Warband. Also, open source.
