But that is not even the worst. I had to be playing Far Cry 3 on around 20 FPS for half the game because I would not play it on lower than High settings. I didn't even know how much the game was chugging (just thought it was how the game was) until I upgraded my computer and started playing it again. The amount of performance drop I will put up with in a game in the name of something pretty to look at is astounding.

I've built 5 PC's for friends and I tell them to spend 700 minimum, 900 if they need a monitor and all peripherals. Its simply not worth gimping your CPU/GPU to save 200 bucks when a good set can last half a decade easy. Hell, I'm still using a 2009 i7 that works wonders.

you can turn off texture filters in most games. like in half-life, you can turn them off by typing "gl_texturemode gl_nearest" in the console. youve turned down all your settings to get this gritty look but you didn't turn off the thing that made it muddy and smoothed in the first place
