Basically
>Zoe was going to college and she loved zombie movies, but has to kill her dad when zombies bust into their tiny apartment home and bite him. Her mom also dies
>Bill was in a VA hospital and was diagnosed with cancer. Bill also fought in Vietnam
>Francis was recently released from prison and was getting into trouble again with some old biker buddies in a bar when the zombies showed up
>Lewis was some office worker who was working overtime because people were getting sick and staying home because of "green flu" and then he finds out it's much worse than that
The comic takes place after they're picked up at the farmhouse and taken to a military base where they are then put under quarantine for being exposed and in the open for so long. The base commander and scientists are completely baffled as to handle the outbreak and it's only partway through that they find out about the special infected from the survivors
The base gets overrun, the survivors flee,and Bill dies holding his own against 3 tankswhile the other 3 clear out a Yacht full of witches and sail elsewhere

2 would have been perfect if they abandoned the idea of 4 new survivors and just made it a big expansion pack for the original 4
for 3 i hope they choose to expand on the 8 they have instead of introducing new ones. I feel like they had a great group chemistry in 1, and interesting individual characters in 2, but poor group. That was fixed when the two interacted and 1's compatibility seemed to help with 2's
tl;dr l4d3 could be great if they don't try to introduce a whole new group
l4d2 became better than the first over time but it was still a shitty cash grab
