The characters might have, in some odd theme, more gender variety but the issue is with both the execution and the variety.
Every character in Battleborn is boring from both a design standpoint to a gameplay standpoint to a mechanical level to an execution of their voices and animations. It's just fucking boring
Overwatch excels on most of those levels with its characters. Take 76 or Pharah and just their voice, their movements and taunts, their silhouette. Everything about them isn't conveyed through some fucking Bio like Gearbox is relying on but in their being. This is why Battleborn is getting killed...the execution of each character is sloppy and they're honestly not well differentiated

With Tracer and Reaper, you've got to have a lot of situational awareness. If you see a Reaper wraith to the middle of your team, he is most likely going to ult.
Same goes for Tracer, if you know she has been behind the team for a while and there are stationary or key targets to kill, she will definitely go for the ult kill. Same if you see a Tracer not trying to flank, but blinking three times in the middle of the battlefield, she will ult.
You can only try dodging or countering with certain abilities. Genji's deflect, McCree flashbang, jumping away with Pharah or moving her with concussive blast, etc.
