Well I'll be. That both explains the blatant flaws like the terrible jaggies, parallax, and polycount while at the same time impressing me.

I still hate the trend of trying to force photorealism in games but this is a decent looking attempt.

If only they spent the budget they used on non repeating textures on good writing, gameplay, or animation.

Ambient Occlusion is a component of PBR lighting, can be a channel in the texture map now.

Instead of conputing lighting on the fly, you can bake that shit into textures that overlay on top of everything else. Reflections are just a cubemap.

Mirror's edge 1 did this last gen. Dice used a separate program to bake global illumination /radiosity into textures that Unreal 3 could load just fine.

No you dumbass most of the effects are rendered ahead of time and just displayed in real time. Games have been doing this since RE.

Also it's not really that good as a TPS, it's a covershooter with setpieces.
