What do you think of the E3 demo?

The boss is jarring to the general aesthetic.
The gameplay seems a tad too slow.

Besides that it looks and seems to play fine.
>>
Looking forward to improvement.

Looks and behaves like a Metroidvania game, which is what I was expecting and hoping for.

I was also a bit surprised by the way Miriam gains new powers. A giant shard of glass impaling her? Yikes. But I guess it goes hand in hand with the fact that the poor girl is in constant pain and on the verge of dying.

This. Harmony of Despair had the same issue.
>>
Looks good so far.

Agreed with >>341627728 boss/stage aesthetic, but given how everything else looks, I'm more of the opinion that it's the stage that needs to change to be put in line.
>>
>>341628391
Why would the stage need change? that would take a shit ton of work and avoiding the actual problem. All the enemies designs work for the aesthetic of the stage besides the boss. The boss is full blown neon anime. they need to just tweet the looks of boss.

>The boss is full blown neon anime.

Just like the main character, menus; colorful flashes and effects on enemy death and enemies themselves - it just happens that the color scheme of the small enemies is dark, even if saturated, so it's less immediately apparent.

>that would take a shit ton of work and avoiding the actual problem.

But this is one stage. Hopefully the others are more in line with the general aesthetic on display.
>>

>>
>>341629490
>Just like the main character
She has 3 primary colors. Deep Blue, black and pale skin color. The only thing that stands out of hers is the small almost unnoticeable glass shards trickling from her when she moves. Not like the boss who is 6 different neon colors and looks like she is a giant god damn balloon. Bitch is nothing but loud colors. for a dreary stage with black sludge monsters and shit.

The menu screen is also just 3 colors. and the background is nothing fancy or bright. Just windows.

I understand there are bright light sources but that is their job. The boss design and aesthetic just does not work for the whole stage shown while everything else does.

That's not gonna happen. They intend to reuse assets from this game the same way they reused sprites from every Castlevania after Rondo. They're already showcasing that in this game with the Classicvania mode.

>>
>>341631597
>Didn't realize how big her boobs actually are.
One major thing with females when portrayed in small scale, is that you need the boobs enlarged to even be visible at the size they are in. This is a trait that goes back to the 16 bit FF days, and most famously with Tiffa of FF when she is in SD mode.

It was also indirectly shown when an attempt was made to give Barbie dolls realistic proportions. It was realised that it just doesn't work at all for Barbie if she didn't have porn star proportions. Being shrunken in size makes features indistinct.

Looks pretty good to me, I liked the graphics and the way the background moves to simulate the ship rolling. That oppai tentacle monster boss was pretty neat as well.

However idk how to feel about the combat, the weapons seem really short range. I'm not so sure how I feel about it having a leveling system and infinitely respawning enemies, are you going to have to grind? I feel like it should only have pseudo leveling by you finding more powerful gear and abilities as you progress through the game instead of just "you killed 31 monsters now you inexplicably do 1 more damage!" Also idk about you but it seemed kind of ridiculous to me that you can kill a boss that big just by kicking it in the tentacle a whole bunch, its hundreds of times your size, it looks like it could snap the ship in half no problem.

The animations are nice though.

If you've never played a Metroidvania game before, you might try an earlier one you can get for cheaper before jumping onto this, Bloodstained is largely for fans of those games.

Try Symphony of the Night or Aria of Sorrow.
>>
>>341630747
there is an understandable degree of cynicism since there was no real gameplay shown in the kickstarter campaign which should have been a red flag but didn't seem to faze those who backed it. Mostly though its just mindless shitposting.
>>
>>341635719
Vepar (also Separ, Vephar) is a strong Great Duke of Hell, and rules twenty-nine legions of demons. He governs the waters and guides armoured ships laden with ammunition and weapons; he can also make, if requested, the sea rough and stormy, and to appear full of ships. Vepar can make men die in three days by putrefying sores and wounds, causing worms to breed in them, but if requested by the conjurer he can heal them immediately.

Vepar is depicted as a mermaid.

All of this pretty much cements this boss as Vepar given the location, storms, monsters, weapons, and boat.

I think, as a 3D game, they need to keep the color palette more subdued in order for character models to stick out more. Sprites are a lot more distinctive and easy to work with, but way more expensive to produce.

Why would I not be able to play a game on steam in 20 years? Do you not understand how corporate assets work? Steam alone is worth literally billions of dollars, if for some reason valve were in financial difficulties they would simply sell it to someone else, probably either google or microsoft.
>>

They can't stop me from playing it, and there's a physical object that retains value. It's a product rather than a service.

Looks right up my alley.
My only complaint is that the gameplay seems a little sluggish compared to the castlevanias, but that might just be because of the 3D look.

The internet has already been around long enough that we've already seen people lose access to "digital goods" to the downfall of companies. You can put your trust in Steam's stability and in their benevolence if you like, and it's not a terrible bet, but I'd rather have a proper copy of the game.

That said, Steam is a better bet than a digital version on console.

As always people are misusing the word own in that context.

No one "owns" the game in the sense in which you're using the term. Not even the company that made it.

With physical copies, what you owned is, well your own copy of the game, and that ownership came with rights attached (at least in civilized countries): right to sell, gift or lend your copy. Non-retractable right to access the content of your copy.

Steam and the like clients renegotiated those rights at a loss for consumers.

>A DRM-free copy will give you the same rights as a physical one.

Actually, no. You can give a copy of your game, but then it's piracy. Legally speaking you don't have the right to do it. It's just that no one is going to bother you. For now. And then of course conditions of access to content you paid for can be renegotiated after you paid for the game. See the Steam user agreement change a few years ago.

>except that you can't resell it.

So you don't, by your own admission.

All that being said, the point I was addressing was that bullshit about "owning" a license. Of course you never owned the game (again, even the publisher doesn't own it). But the licensing conditions gave customers more rights with a physical copy than they have right now with a digital one.

I never said anything about keeping them wrapped m8, I play my games too.

If your not a collector, physical games can be sold to recoup a portion of the price when you want something new. If you are a collector and will never sell them, what the fuck is the point of digital

I'm not saying digital doesn't have it's advantages--such as not taking up space--but it benefits the publisher greatly at the expense of the consumer.

Which is irrelevant if the laws of your country contradict the EULA - civil law supersedes contracts. Apart from guarantying you access to content in case there's a problem with the company owning the client you're forced to use to access games you mean.

When Valve changed its EULA to suppress the possibility to class action lawsuit to its customers, customers who refused the new EULA couldn't access their games.

Might not have cared about that one right, but you know, thing to keep in mind about the future. And that's before mentioning things like auto-patching and version access/archiving.

>Wow, there's actual DARKNESS in the ship now. And the colors are more vivid! Yes, that looks much better, still not on the same level as the left but definitely better than what we have.

It's on Unreal 4 you'll be able to tweak the INI to make it look like that if you want.

Or who knows, between now and release they might change/improve the shaders or add full screen pixel filters that increase the color saturation or tweak / post process the image in other ways.

IGA *is* getting shit done though and has experience running a project on a small budget under severe time constraints unlike Inafune who probably got used to dicking around and having as much money as he wanted.

Nice and all, but the client is made to be a DRM solution first and the DRM free games are a minority.

Not to mention, with physical copies, games are archived by default. Most users are not going to extend the effort to archive all their collection. Meaning they'll still need the clients to download games. Which makes the whole DRM-free point irrelevant in that access to to content situation.
