Quite tactical in combat. We have AP (used for abilities) and CP (used for entering flow (massive buff) or panic (massive debuff)).
AP affects accuracy and is spent for attacks. It gives a good balance and allows you to decide to go more defensive to chain attacks while the enemy AP is low (for accuracy) or to try and damage their AP so they can't use their strongest attacks.
CP is gained on a successful hit, lost on a critical hit. At 0 you get panic and at 10 you get flow. Keeping enemies from flow and balancing your CP allows you to fight with precision
Lots of unique traits to your party members too.
One of the better ones for sure even though its cheap and lewd.

I thought it was pretty below average. Having a priest in your group lets you auto-battle your way through almost every encounter, every boss fight is pretty much the same where they hide behind 3 rows of summons and auto-heal, and your demons are crazy imbalanced to the point that most of them are only ever useful to get past gimmicks and trap tiles, never to be used in combat.

Etrian Odyssey IV is an all time great JRPG that puts 95% of the genre to shame. Not to mention EO1 was the game that pioneered this subgenre of JRPGs and hasn't been beaten since.
EOIV offers a steep but rewarding difficulty, outstanding dungeons, pretty good individualization of characters, min/maxing, a shit ton of content, a good overworld and a very good post game. It is a masterclass JRPG that soured me on a lot of JRPG shit I had to endure in the past years.Compared to a lame clone like Dungeon Traveller, EO not only invented the entire genre but innovates and defines it with it's amazing innovations in JRPG gameplay.

On a game that uses the touch screen more often for inputs I'd recommend you to get a DS/3DS and a flashcart; but in Strange Journey it functions mainly as a static map, so emulation is fine.

Risk of Rain is garbage in comparison and can be broken by just farming boar beach forever.
The game doesn't even get remotely difficult even when you use honor, spite, glass and sacrifice artifacts.
3/4 of the characters are brokenly easy to play because they all have invincibility frames out the ass, and loader himself just straight up gets invincibility every few seconds.

The fact that the game design is marred by the continuous barrage of sexualised underage girls who fit into stereotypical outdated tropes on how women should act is one reason why dungeon traveller 2 and all the games on the Vita will never be successful and hated on /v/.

I bought Stranger of Sword City cause artstyle A is everything I want from a DRPG. It's nice to have a choice of multiple dungeons all the time, the plot is interesting and the faction system is pretty neat. But goddamn if the class system isn't simplistic as hell. The LP system is barely relevant as well, though I actually like having party members rotate in and out of the roster all the time.
