I hate it because it's another shady DLC-ridden EA release. Fell for BF3 and didn't even bother to look at BF4 so why would I want get this?
Look forward to playing a handful of maps over and over as there's no map editor and you are supposed to buy DLC to get more maps but then nobody plays those because nobody has bought the DLC to begin with. No mod support either - BF2 had lots of free quality content and long lifetime thanks to being moddable.
Last I heard BF4 sold loot boxes for real money so you can get shit unlocked. Why would you even consider supporting those trends?
That's before considering how awful DICE treats the source material. I've seen far better executions of "alternate universe/history" takes on WW1. There's nothing exciting or inspiring about it, it's just a bland amalgamation of WW1 visual themes with modern warfare elements.

Don't hate it, when I saw that it was going to be Battlefield in WW1, I expected Battlefield in WW1, i.e less realistic and taking a lot of ahistorical liberties to make it fun.
My problem is that they didn't get the spirit of WW1 right. The MP footage they showed had the player running around in an open map from all directions. Imo they should have made levels a lot more focused and with chokepoints the team has to pass through with stuff like machinegun nests on the other side. Imagine a traditional WW1 battle just that it goes really fast and ground is taken a lot quicker. Using the tanks as cover you could advance and gain that ground with that risky push. Lots of games do this already, TF2, Overwatch, Red orchestra, that Ghost recon Free to play game. If they focused on that I feel it would be alot better. Hopefully the campaign plays more like this. In any case it looks to be the more interesting part of the game anyway, with the lawrenfce of arabia stuff and all that.

If the multiplayer has a character editor thats fine, let people play whatever they want to play as, but if it is mandatory that the german and brit army is comprised of only black snipers thats fucking stupid.

Had an opportunity for a new gamemode involving pushing forward across the map, as in, the whole teams moves in one direction and tries to push the other of the map, not while capturing control points, but rather the maps are alot more narrow and long and the players must push together to defeat the enemy simply buy pushing their forward line off the map. People seem to love meat grinder maps, this wouldve been passable. If you step out of your controlled side of the map for too long its out of bounds and you die, so one person cant just run all the way behind enemy lines and start killing people, everyone has to move in the same direction and weaken their lines before moving forward and taking their position.
