so it has to be after WW right?

Why do we have Link waking up in a capsule with water? Was he in cryosleep? What does that mean for the lore? Was this same Link present in another game?

He's the Link from SS, because he's right-handed.

>>
>>341587231
Probably not him. If he slept for a 100 years or so, then Hyrule would be an incredibly short-lived kingdom to be built and destroyed in such a short timespan. Doubt Hyrule would even be able to have any glory in such a short time. TP Link is a lot more likely since he is the only other Link who has been right handed (though only in the Wii version).

>>
>>341587471
I think that the reason they made the rito evolve from zoras is because they wanted the tie-in to the old zora sage to be intact but couldn't properly come up with a place for the zora to live since they would undoubtedly live underwater, which would make it so much harder to travel to their home. They made the rito evolve from the zoras in order to bypass this restriction, I think, since it would be much easier to give them a home island of a sorts if they don't have the entire fucking ocean as their home. Still doesn't quite make sense lore-wise, but from a development perspective, I can see why they did it.

It's either before The Great Flood (will tell why the Goddesses did it, probably because of Sheikah becoming way too powerful and totally breaking the Cataclysm Cycle), or in the Great Flood 'Downfall'/Power/Gandondorf-Victory timeline, where he won and raised the Old Kingdom.
>>
>>341588071
They couldn't just had had a Zora Island? They could use it the way seals and turtles use them.

They could also just say that only some Zoras adopted to land/flying, while others stayed in the sea.
>>
They mentioned you could go and face the final boss as soon as you start the game. I can't help but feel worried with this much freedom, I think the game might lose it's focus on the story, like if you can go and complete the temples in any order you want (or not complete them at all) what is the point? They'll feel weightless when you stop to think about it.
>>
>>341588256
>Great Flood 'Downfall'/Power/Gandondorf-Victory timeline, where he won and raised the Old Kingdom.
This is my bet right now. I get huge Wind Waker vibes from the game, but I don't see where it could possibly fit in the currently established timeline, so I could see another split.
Only other thing I can think of would be some kind of unified timeline.
>>
>>341588256

can't be grfore the great flood because the Deku Tree in WW told Link that the Koroks got their form due to the great flood

BotW is already confirmed to take place 100+ years after TP.

Did you guys not watch the stream?
>>
>>341587197
These are the most popular theories at the moment

>This is a Link from a different timeline who has been pulled resurrected into BoTW's time. He might even be a previous hero we already know of, like Skyward Sword Link or Ocarina of Time Link - because BoTW's era lacked a proper hero, or the hero for it went MIA.

>this is a brand new Link who died 100 years ago to Calamity Ganon until the Sheikah revived him, hence the liar being called the resurrection chamber.

>He isn't Link. Rather he isn't even human but is some artificial android/clone/synthetic organism created by the Sheikah to seal Ganon as a last-ditch effort, which would explain the lack of a green tunic, right-handedness, the amnesia, etc.

Pick your poison.
>>
The thing climbing back and forth the Death Mountain could be a Boss?
>>
>>341588574

>100+ years after TP

>>
>>341588574

>>

>>
>>341588502
You haven't played LoZ have you?
>>
>Calamity Ganon
>Calamity
>"It"

So Ganon got corrupted so much that he stopped thinking and became a force of nature
>>
>>341588502
Also in almost every game since the NES era (save for ALBW) in which Ganon has appeared, he's been interactive with or at least expecting Link throughout the game. It's going to feel awkward if he just shows up in the final dungeon area skipping any buildup. Maybe if you challenge Ganon too early he'll blow you away clear across the Overworld Map like in the first part of WW? Surely, your interactions with him will change depending om how much of the world you actually challenged/explored beforehand.

>>
>>341589658
But what about Zoras? There is a theory that says that while Sea Zoras evolved into Ritos, River Zoras simply stopped being brutes and became civilized, as you can see by the green Zora Queen in LBW. So we may get both Ritos and Zoras in this game.
>>
>>341588574
Is it worth playing the games in timeline order or just release order or whatever's good order?

Only Zelda game I've completed is ALBW.
>>
>>341589774
To be fair, after Ocarina of Time they started being reasonably coherent. At least WW and TP's placement were.
>>
>>341589756
Because it's more likely that the senile old men who wrote the game didn't remember how the timeline was supposed to be.
>>
>>341589774
They seem to be taking the timeline into account with this game, though.
>>
>>341589756
Because parallel universe never converge. They can be created by splitting the timeline but once splitted, they can't converge anymore.
Now, cross-universe travels? Those are possible. Which can explain why Wolf Link can be summoned and why some SS things can be found in OoT's Temples. Those are all thing that come from a timeline, traveling through space and time.

That doesn't support a convergence theory, just the fact things can travel across time and space, even between different timelines. That's it.
>>
>>341589831
No, Ritos will look ridiculous with their oversized head next to Link. Koroks get a pass because they're not humanoids.
>>
>>341589831
But Koroks aren't humanoid. It wouldn't make sense to have Ritos, a humanoid race, with cartoonish proportions when Link looks out of a generic anime.
>>
>>341589831
Koroks get a pass because their physicality is so inhuman. They're plant shrubs. They should look like plant shrubs.

Rito will definitely have to see some changes in order to be congruent and consistent with other NPC races in the game.
>>
>>341589774
It's even worse when the official timeline first came out it was lime 90% the same as the fan created timeline aside the death timeline (which didn't even make any sense to begin with).
>>
>>341589870
Order they came out.
That way you see how mechanics evolve
The timeline really doesn't matter at all.
>>
>>341589819
Koroks didn't "spawn", they evolved from Kokori to be able to traverse the Great Sea easier. It just doesn't make sense for Kokori to evolve into Koroks unless the world was flooded.

>>
>>341589913
True, but a timeline always was present. They established that when Zelda II was a direct sequel to the first Zelda and A Link to the Past was a prequel to the two. After that, they couldn't really decide how to tie them all together and backed on their words all over the place until they actually got their shit together and put together the actual timeline.

There being an Eldin Bridge after the world flooded is even less likely famalam.

The Koroks are just the Kokori who the Deku Tree evolved to survive after the Lost Woods slowly died.

Its perfectly reasonable to assume that whatever cataclysm caused the Dark age in Breath of the Wind is what pushed them to change too.
>>
>>341589870
the entire timeline is a gamefaqs meme that went too far, no one at Nintendo gives a fuck. Obviously some games like OOT/MM or WW/PH are related but trying to shove the entire thing into a unified framework is on par with the Rugrats Anjelica fan theory in terms of retardation.

>PARALLEL UNIVERSE CAN'T CONVERGE CAUSE I SAID SO

Not a decent argument really. Though I agree if it isn't that, then it's definitely cross-universe travel shit going on. Happened in Hyrule Warriors. Even if the game wasn't canon, it's possible Aonuma took some inspiration from it in this regard.

Why? The Eldin Bridge was obviously built before the world flooded, not after. It makes much more sense for this to be a WW sequel than a TP sequel.
>>
>>341588574
I think it's more likely to be before Wind Waker. I think it's a telling of the legend at the beginning of Wind Waker, except with a new timeline split where the same hero from ages ago actually does return to defeat Ganon and the world doesn't need to be flooded.

I mean, look. Ganon even appears as a dark cloud in the legend.

Anon, every single word in this thread is an asspul. Saying convergences can or can't happen have the same "truth" value.
The difference is, as you said, cross-universe travels already happened in the series so they can explain more easily those things you pointed out and make actually more sense than the convergence theory.

Remember: Occams' Razor.
>>

for a series they've been making since the 80s

yeah I'm sure Miyamoto just had a secret plan for a unified timeline all these years and it was not just a cheap gimmick to sell some shitty artbook that was done without even consulting the creators of the games
>>
>>341590416
The point is that we have no idea what Hyrule looked like before the world was flooded in the WW timeline. All we know about Hyrule is what we saw from the opening cinematic and the castle area we saw under the sea. The "Twilight Princess ruins" and Eldin Bridge confirms nothing at all.

As a matter of fact there's much more that points to it being the WW timeline such as Koroks presence and the Rock Salt tooltip.
>>
>>341590570
Timeline discussions exist since the release of Zelda II. And Miyamoto has been asked about timelines plenty of times, even in the '90s.

I don't think it's "another" split, but I think it's a split that puts the Wind Waker timeline into the Twilight Princess timeline.

So like, Ganon is revived. If the hero of legend doesn't come back as stated in the prophecy, the world is flooded and Wind Waker happens. If the hero of legend does come back as stated in the prophecy, Ganon is defeated, the world isn't flooded and Twilight Princess happens.

Honestly, the rock salt tooltip, when you think about it, doesn't nessecarily prove WW timeline placement. Who's to say some areas of Hyrule weren't submerged in the distant past only to reemerge later. Hell, it happens in the real world, should be able to happen in Hyrule too, right?
>>
>>341590570

Why was Minish Cap considered the first game in the timeline before Skyward Sword came out? I don't even remember.

>>
>>341590886
Of course it doesn't hold as proof, but I feel like Nintendo wouldn't put such a contrived tooltip on it unless they were trying to point to something. Especially the "ancient" part of the tooltip.
>>
>>341590923
Something about the hat from what I remember.
>>
>>341590923
Because prior to that the "legend of the hero of time" wasn't a legend, it was a prophecy, the master sword hadn't been forged yet and it explains at the end why the Hero of Time classically wore the green hat and tunic.
>>

Well my theory is it is taking place after WW after all the water is gone.
You can see these ravines and big mountains witch is an after effect of all that water floating away.

The Link we start with is just a clone of the real Link and the old man in the beginning is the original or just another clone.
>>
>>341590923

>>
>>341591245
>The Link we start with is just a clone of the real Link
I don't get why people think this. He is just a Link being put in criogenic sleep, the voice calling him clearly implies he was an hero already before being put to sleep.
>>
What about the theory that BotW Link is a cyborg/clone?
>>
>>341591193
Speaking of that, thats a lore point that really REALLY stand to be point out.

The master sword's magic makes it literally invincible, it never dulls, it never breaks its invulnerable, if the sword is chipped and rusting that means the magic in the sword is fading, perhaps a metaphor for the whole "post collapse" empire dark age thing or a hint that perhaps we're at the very furthest point of the timeline in this game?

By now the master sword is like, ancient beyond ancient.

There's what looks like a giant guardian walking around Death Mountain and might be from that?
>>
>>341591402
Water seems to be important in this game. I mean, the data tears Link can gather are clearly made of water.
Maybe the Sheika, before Hyrule flooded, decided to put to sleep an hero just in case. Hell, the tower of the gods could have been a test for the sleeping Link as well.
>>
>>341591553
True. It might be REALLY fucking far in the future, after WW. And Fi has rusted to shit.
>>
>>341591638
Could work, since Jabun said that WW link had nothing to do with the bloodline, too.

the real link was in stasis.
>>
>>341591402
If that's true, then Link could be analogous to hyrule, as he was being preserved under the sea
So if this Link represents the old Hyrule, I'd assume he's from old Hyrule. If it takes place in the WW timeline then this could be the OoT link or SS link
>>
What really baffles me is the Master Sword. If this is indeed in the WW timeline, why would the Master Sword be back in its shrine? I doubt whoever resurrected Ganon put it back there.

And why is it so fucking rusty? Isn't the Master Sword supposedly unbreakable?
>>
>>341591553
If we assume this is post-WW, we must also take in consideration one thing: who the extracted the Master Sword from Ganondorf's head? Maybe that's the reason why the sword is rusty. Maybe Ganondorf absorbed its magic?

because he wakes up almost naked in a sci-fi looking place. We know there were times when the hero did not show up and Ganon fucked up everyone, it makes sense for the Sheikas to have a backup plan. It also makes for an interesting storyline.

>>341591458
Well i dont think the had the technology to put him in a criogenic sleep while the Hero was still active.
It could be OoT Adult Link that they put to sleep somehow or just transported him to the future with the master sword time magic thingie.
Thus the hero was missing when Ganon returned and the Goddesses had to drench Hyrule and midget Link had to step up and take on the hero role instead.

But the thing that breaks this theory is that they talk about Ganon. I mean, did they not kill him for good in WW?
It could be an imposter.

But ultimately Nintendo just gonna pick some retarded story and it ultimately does not matter.

You can find these murals within the Temple of Time in TPHD.

For the record of easter egg hints, Ganondorf also has the same Link embedded on the side of his armor, fighting some kind of bird or serpent.

I doubt either of these were coincidental.

I think this is the most likely scenario. You don't see anything like the Guardians in TP, so I don't see why people think it's before it. But look at Gohdan from Wind Waker. Maybe Fi inside of it is kill.

I would like to point out that having characters from one timeline present means absolutely nothing. Especially since Looks are just the true form of the Kokiri. OoA/OoS had a plethora of characters from Majora's Mask, despite being in a separate timeline from them, just because of the timing of their release and Nintendo's mood.

BotW being after WW makes the LEAST amount of sense just from the fact the Temple of Time exists. The Ancient Sea Salt Rocks could easily be from the Lanayru Sea.

Also, a lot of you need to check your facts because I'm seeing a lot of shit that is plain just made up used as evidence in these threads.

Not that anon but this is the first time Link has had access to this much sheikah tools and tech in the entire series.

While I personally don't believe he's just a "clone", I do think he's not the intended "hero" deemed by the goddesses to save hyrule and the sheikah put in their own agent to become a hero.

So it's safe to assume he's a sheikah that's been given the role by man not god to become THE LINK of legends. And all the trials are there to enforce this mindset.

Which would be great because it would be really interesting to see if the goddesses saw this as a infringement by man. We haven't really had any games where you actively play against the interests of fate itself, you have always been the agent of fate never the opposite.

Okay, wind waker. All the references to ocarina feel really shoehorned and forced, whereas the rest of the game and story feels natural and free flowing. Especially the ultra retarded stuff like Zoras being birds now. Just exclude the zoras and let the birds be their own thing.

Or keep zoras instead of giving them wings because THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD IS WATER.

Wind Waker, Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess all have alien-like magitech. It's not unseen before.

Doesn't explain the Temple of Time
Doesn't explain the Bridge of Elfin
Doesn't explain how the Master Sword got moved to a pedestal

If they wanted to keep the game fresh for release why did they show a few hours of it on their stream showcasing locations, Items and abilities? I don't really believe they have finished making the villages and they are just using it as an excuse for their absence.

Ganon appears and is defeated in every timeline, they always bring him back with a different excuse. Sometimes he just triforces himself back, sometimes they summon him, sometimes a seal is broken. I wouldn't worry about how he came back, that nigga just can't stay put.

Are those red dots eyes or the sunset seeping through?
A guardian for sure, anyway.

I'd be okay if they bring back Cia on the hero's team. Lana alone can go fuck herself.
