As a European who doesn't nerd out over american super-heroes, my hype for this is tempered. The plethora of American super-hero movies these last couple of years has also turned me off to it much more than I used to be.
I have not played the Batman Arkham games simply because I wasn't interested enough to try them out.
I haven't played a spiderman, or probably even a superhero game since the PS1 games, which were pretty fun as I recall. The different suits to collect, the free webbing around cities, the bosses... the story was actually pretty cool if I remember.
I'm going to try to tap into my enjoyment from back to the PS1 games and I'll give this game a shot, purely out of nostalgia. Venom was always one of my absolute favourite villains.

I'm curiously optimistic for a new Spider-Man game but have my doubts. A lot of what we saw in the trailer (webbing guy out of car, jumping through cafe) looked like "press X to make your character do this cool animation" rather than stuff that would happen organically.
I don't like stuff like that, the more control they put in the hands of the player the better. Who knows though, it could be good.

SM2 had the swinging. It had nothing else though. Meanwhile the other titles since that point had everything else, but not the swinging. To some people the swinging mechanics are everything, to others the comic accurate depictions, situations, locations, and shit like that is more important. Personally I get as much enjoyment out of SM2 as I do Web of Shadows or Shattered Dimensions.
