That's reasonable. I haven't played WOTR so I can't comment on that. AI definitely needs improvement as well. We've seen a few examples of battle/campaign AI but nothing very specific about the abilities of individual bot AI yet.

4 direction attacks with no varying speed, no opportunity to intentionally wear your opponent down, no stamina either, chambers are a good idea but not when you can cancel animations, and should directly be tied to an attack direction, footwork is non existent unless you want to bring the speed from cavalry into it because having your walking speed be reduced to paraplegic levels over the slightest incline is laughable.

WoTR was great in many aspects. For example many enclosed helmets had visors that the player could raise for better visibility but then that area of the face was totally unprotected and the hitboxes were good enough to exploit that.
Polearms were also more nuanced as you had to properly space yourself from your target so that you hit them with the small head of the weapon as contact with the pole instead would do no damage.

Other than polishing details like that I don't think the combat itself can be improved.

For instance a thrust. You simply block a thrust with a downward block. Thrust to the face? Downward block. Thrust to the feet? Same downward block, no need to reach or time, hardly even aim either.

Polearms and shields are a joke in M&B. You have to drop your destroyable shield to attack, the shaft is indestructible lolwat, no push/pull advantage for 2 handed.
If you want to get pissy over stamina the least you could do is address any of the other multiple issues with the stale combat.

We could refer to them as jabs, have you ever been in a fight with weapons? Blocking and swinging is taxing work. As it stands I can enter the arena as a swadian with a great sword and swing until my heart is content and block above my head without penalty. This ties into stamina and you haven't persuaded me that it's a bad direction for the game to go. It wouldn't be that bad of a trade off either as overhead swings do more damage and strike the head (many players don't wear helmets in MP) but as it stands I can be outnumbered 3v1 and block 3 simultaneous overhead strikes without so much as having my block need to reset. How is that NOT a problem?

Drop chambers, add a couple parry frames to the block animation, again with the penalty of stamina to discourage spamming anything you've virtually fixed every problem with it.

It isn't your attack frames that block it. That's not how shit works unless it's a parry which would make more sense to be intentionally defensive (read: blocking) . Then give the opponent you parried a small stagger and CHOOSE the attack direction you want rather than having that already locked in unless you animation cancel.

I think you can tell x type of unit inf/archers/cav to do something but you cannot divide in a menu your army into units and bind keys to select them or at least assign a behavior to them (Aggressive/defensive/whatever)

Well i remember when the game was unkown that the commands were extremely rudimentary and the AI wasn't prepared to obey them. if you told them to stick together they would form a square and move in any direction facing always towards the enemy side

I hope they work on the AI or enable modders to do what i described.

Nothing that you've put forward as a possible adjustment has anything to do with game balance. There's no stamina because it keeps the game moving-it allows players to take on multiple opponents, it keeps things fun. Stamina is the last thing is want in m&b. It also really sounds like you haven't played mp, or weren't very good at it, combat in mp is extremely dynamic and tactical, and even a basic understanding of it squashes your first set of complaints.

I agree with your issues with single player ai though.

Basically if you want to play another game like chiv go ahead and so, as it is you're posing features that would completely change the game, and acting like they're just "improvements"

Alright, chambering in MnB isnt as big as you think it is, if you can read someone, then chambers will help, but alot of people cant chamber. And putting a single animation for chambering is kinda dumb. Your losing options on combat, sometimes you need to block another guy after you chamber, a single animation locks you into attack for too long. Experienced players will just hit you while you cannot block.

Dont think its a good idea anon, it limita qhat you can do.

I'm not saying it should move in the direction of chiv. Don't give loadouts and pidgeonhole folks into certain viable strategies. Don't give special abilities to characters. Don't restrict soldiers from picking up bows or archers from picking up swords. You want to focus on one suggestion of having to actually manage a stat other than health and I understand how that can discourage you, but trust me if you can suspend this thought that I only want you to be able to swing twice before gasping for air as if you're drowning and recognize the absolute silliness in not having any repercussion from engaging in war I think you might see that it could be a vast improvement.
The system is beautiful in its simplicity and offers a high skill cieling but depending on the server (server availability is another issue for some players) you'll notice a high skill floor as well.
