Poor gamer thread.

>out of money until the next pay period
>can't buy or make myself anything to eat for work
>subsist solely on the plenty of free snacks at work
>can't buy any vidya until my next paycheck

At least there's beer on tap I have access too.

Tell me about your poor game struggles. Also, what food or drinks does your workplace offer?

Ew no what the fuck is wrong with you? Move to the rural parts of Virginia or NC. You don't have to deal with the shitty as fuck winters but also don't have to deal with the shittier summers of the more southern states.

I live in Southwest Virginia and it's honestly my ideal climate for all season, a little too hot in summer but winter always brings just enough snow but not too much that it's annoying as fuck. There are also a shit ton of pretty mountains and nature shit around and you don't see that many people compared to the absolute shitfest that is NoVa

>Tell me about your poor game struggles.

I'm not poor anymore, but about 10 years ago I couldn't afford any games.

I had a crappy laptop with a broken screen and keyboard that I hooked up to a CRT and external keyboard and a 20" CRT TV from like 1986. I saved up for years and eventually bought an Xbox 360 to play on my 20" CRT. I had like one or two games. I pretty much 100%'d Assassin's Creed on my stupid tiny SDTV just because I couldn't afford any other games.

After AC I got Mass Effect and my friends ridiculed me for not getting it on PC. I didn't want to admit to them that I couldn't afford a gaming quality PC so I pretended PC gaming was for nerds and became a consolefag. All my friends had such good times playing PC games together, times they still reminisce about to this day, so to this day I regret not getting into PC gaming 10 years ago like everyone else I know. I missed out on so many fun times.

Now I'm old and bitter about games so I can't have much fun except for a very small handful of games. I missed out on so much because I was poor. I hate my life.

>>
>>341535954
most entry-level jobs won't pay health insurance due to a loophole that allows employers to give you less than 40 hours a week but hire oodles of people. So everyone gets less money, most making less than 1000 a month.

nah, my wiring isn't bad as i actually get above the rated speed, the problem is the town is too small to be worth investing better infrastructure to allow better speeds just yet.

Why even say anything then? I can survive off of like $100 a month if I didn't have a single other fucking bill to pay. You're saying you paid your parents $300 a month? Did you not have ANYTHING to pay for? Health insurance? Car insurance? Cell phone? Car?

I work at Walmart too but only make around 1k a month

Although I only end up with around $135ish after bills, rent, food, gas, and student loan payments anyway (useless degree)

Can't afford to spend that anyway because I need it if something goes wrong with my car, so I don't buy games anymore unless I sell my expensive TF2 items that I've come across over the years. Usually I just pirate.

Maybe if I get a second job I could afford to save money so I could move somewhere where my degree is worth a shit, but until then I'll just eat shit.

Sounds nice. I like to fantasise about moving to a small town in the US. But I have nothing to offer your workforce so my job prospects would be nil. I hear constant stories about college grads in your country unable to find basic employment.

It's probably easier to be an unskilled worker here in Australia. Even if it means never owning a home.

I was born in 1990 and my first gaming console was a Gameboy Pocket. My Dad refused to buy me video games before that point and I would argue that is why I play so much of them to this day. I didn't get any sort of allowance so "saving up for something" is only really for the middle-class and above. Usually would get a game for my birthday and Christmas. I only played on handhelds up until late into the PS2's lifecycle. After that I graduated highschool and used the graduation money from all my relatives to buy a 360 and after that I bought all my own vidya/built my own PC using money from my job.

I was pretty lucky compared to some but was always envious of those that were able to grow up playing PS1/N64 because whenever I went to friends' houses with those consoles it's all I ever wanted to do.

>>
>>341539248
I am gonna be 100% honest with you here. Complete current gen idort here (handhelds included) and the best advice I can recommend is to only join master race if you play a lot of games with your friends on PC. I built my PC a couple years ago with upgrades here and there but my friends built PC's before that and never upgraded them and instead bought PS4 for this gen. I was able to afford both but don't really play that much on PC as I would like because every multiplayer game that is multiplat they just get on PS4. Overwatch is one of the most angry I've been with my friends because I wanted to get it on PC but none of them wanted to get it on PC and instead opted for the PS4 version. It feels like shit to play but it would be even worse to play solo.

If you just play solo most of the time then just make the jump to PC gaming. There is no way your backlog is completely cleared out and a single steam sale will fill it the fuck up for super cheap.

Fuck it, this thread's pretty personal anyways. I'm recently 19 and moved away from my home in Texas to be in Michigan to start my life.
While I was down there, I worked Taco Bell for almost a year and saved as much as I could. Even with shitty purchases and spending money on absolutely worthless things, I still had several thousand saved making $8.25/hr.

Now I'm across the country, making payments on my apartment and community college. You just gotta be smart and stay cheap as long as possible. Family and friends will also support you and lend you so much help.

I'm a pharmacy technician which doesn't require a bachelor's degree, just took it because I couldn't find anything else at the time. I'm going to pharmacy school in a couple years and will be making $100k+ starting salary.

I am 100% fine with my situation. Just standing around with almost no physical labor or thought required in climate controlled conditions with carpet floors, amazing health benefits, and shit tons of vacation time. Most of my work hours on weekends consist of playing my 3DS and eating junkfood while making fun of the retarded patients we gotta deal with.

>>
>>341532815
How the fuck do you even see your small ass TV from that far away? And with a pole in front of it?

And what's with all the green and yellow stickers on your vidya? Are they ALL ex-rentals?

Plus you have a tiny house in an empty state, and can only afford that by carefully controlling your and your fiances financials. Sure, you saved up for the chinese knock-off of the american dream, but is it truly living? Where are you gonna be left when your fiance leaves you and your meagre walmart paycheck isn't enough to meet the week to week?

I'd much rather have a modest apartment in a decent sized city where amenities are at hand. Where I can easily reduce my costs if I'm finding it hard to get by or money is tight because of unforeseen circumstances.
>>
>>341539810
I live in a town of about 15,000 people in the Midwest. It's actually pretty nice, has a lot of lakes and parks. The people living in my house were smokers and renting it from the owners, and it was in such a shitty shape it scared everybody away which really brought the price down. The owners just wanted it gone and accepted my pretty low offer. So I got a house that needed a hardcore cleaning and updating but it has decent square footage for a first house and it's in a nice area, so it worked out well.

But yeah, a house this price in any city over 20,000 people is probably going to be a condemned crackhouse.

Exactly this. It's amazing how awful most people are with money. My wife does a lot of home visits for poor clients and they will have shit like boxes of DVDs they add a few to each month and ringback tones on their cells, but unable to afford clothes for their kids or fill their cars with gas.

Rent in my area starts at about $1200($800 in dirty crime areas), $200 minimum male car insurance, $200 mandatory medical insurance for me+spawn, almost $500/mo in child support, and a child to support because the state doesn't actually give that money to her mother. I make about $2400 base pay before taxes, take home $1800. I'd lose money every month if I couldn't get overtime.

One of my biggest money savers is just eating $0.10~$0.33 cup of noodle for lunch/dinner during my work days. Hopefully I do well in my new job & they keep me long term so I can stop being poor and not go into child support debt

Yeah in America you're not seen as a proper man by the opposite gender unless you move out into your own place at 18. God forbid a female do it though, they get a free pass until their mid 20's to live at home with no repercussions. A good majority of potential partners are eliminated if you still live at home as a male past the age of 20. Literally the entire "independent" thing started for the chasing of pussy.

yeah nah, I'm fine with this shitty apartment that i share with two of my friends for now
>>
>all these people in debt
Jokes on you, I went to trade school and paid it all in cash, making $65k a year. I'm 29 and already have $110k~ in my retirement slush fund. Recently switched to a new financial advisor and I'm up around 15-20% for the year so far. Just save money up early in life then coast the rest of the way. I only maybe buy vidya once a month, but don't eat out very much. And I have a smart phone that I got from my employer so I could do my job, and I cut cable.

The quality of healthcare where I live is ranked higher than it is in America.

Mine is ranked 18 in the world, Americas is ranked 37.

>everyone is entitled to free health care.
False you just said everyone making ovwr 106,000 is paying more than some dude on a cheap premium in the USA. So no, poor people are just "entitled" to working folk footing their bill. You can pay for private but you don't get your money back from gov (i assume) so you have to pay twice.
Ofc idk where you live, but here in BC I'm not entitled to shit, because despite paying taxes, i can't actually find a doctor and I'll die on a fucking waitinglist for surgery. I can't afford private in here, but in the states i got top notch quality from my employer, like i do dental and "extended" medical here
>>341546074
I don't think he lives in the fucking soviet union or mexico anon
>>
>>341546248
If you have $110k in a retirement fund why are you cutting costs? I'd say you're pretty well off. Buy me FF14.
>>
It's already been said, but it can never be said enough.
>hurr durr why u poor, I dun understand where u money go
>I bought a house in the middle of bum fuck nowhere for a sandwich and a handshake using shared income

I really fucked myself in college. Went for an applied math degree and cannot land a job to save my life. I should have at least minored in CS or something.
>>
>>341544629
I bet you have PS+ for the "free" games too :^)
>>
>>341545845

The weird thing is that i don't feel myself that poor. I can afford my basic stuff and even eat junk food whenever i want, so, maybe gringos aren't as good with finances as they think. Or maybe food is cheaper here.
>>
>>341546543
So I can retire early. I put more money in it earlier so it can grow and compound. $100 in an ira gaining 10% a year is worth more in the end if you put it in now rather than in 10 years.
>>
>>341546464

>People aren't entitled to live because they cannot pay for it

That is why Americas health system is shit.

When a health system puts profit before treating the sick or injured, it's a bad system.

>>341546654

I pay less than you and get significantly better treatment :^)
>>
>>341545548

Here, (You) whore.

>Jokes on you, I went to trade school and paid it all in cash, making $65k a year.

That's it? I gathered up about 30k in student loans and make almost double that just starting out. Buy whatever the fuck I want, put a shit ton into my 401k and IRA, and still have a fuck ton left over. Gonna pay off this loan whenever the fuck I want because the interest rate is super low and I'm in no hurry to pay it off.

I think I'll be ok Anon

When was the last time your parents bought you video games? Excluding birthday and christmas. I didn't even ask my parents for anything last year.

Jack shit.

They're always dank socks too.

Here, i have (You)'s to spare.

And, about your post, mexican supermarkets don't give free samples since the early 00's, i think. So that don't work for me.

The last semester, when i didn't fail any class. But in my defense, it's actually my money, she take it from me. She says that she's manages money better.

Pretty good idea if you live near a Costco as long as you aren't paying for gasoline.
>>
>>341544637
Not him, but I live in SF, inside the actual city and houses usually run from $500,000 to $700,000 for the norm. Rent outside of the busy districts is about $2000 a month for two bedrooms. Tbqh I'd rather live in a fly over state and have an abundance of disposable income than live in a "nice" area and have fuck all. I would move but too many connections and careers here.
>>
>>341547234
lol, I'm better because I don't mention shit that I want.. instead they just spend whatever money equivalence on moar socks. You're weird, bro.
>>
>>341546795
I honestly don't understand how people fail to grasp this.
Medicaid provides assistance to poor people. Insurance is provided by your employer in most cases, if not premiums are fairly low for young healthy people (well obamacare fucked some of this i think, have been up north for a long time) . Companies trying to make a profit have more of an incentive to provide good service for competitive reasons, government has no such incentive, and has to deal with the incompatible demand of less taxes and a better system. As a result it's a fucking joke here. I should probably just start driving to seattle for care.
Nobody is dying in the streets because of private healthcare. Only complaint are people bad with money management who would just fuck themselves over in other ways elsewhere. Seriously the virtue signal is strong in you.
>>
>>341547705

And the country I live in, which has free health care for everyone has a much better health care system than America.

How are you failing to understand this? The treatment where I live is both free and a lot better than the treatment you would receive.
>>
>>341546659
Yeah, it weirded me out too. With the money I was making I could feed, clothe and transport myself okay. I stopped working there 5 months ago because It was interfering with my studies and I still have some of that money saved up (thankfully I didn't need the job nor I needed to pay rent), even after months of Blu-ray collecting which can get pretty expensive.
>>
>>341547916
Objectively wrong mate. Where do you live?
Us pretty much has the best healthcare in the world, especially at the upper end of the spectrum.
>>
>>341547916
for the love of god.

healthcare isn't free.

Canadian single payer system is more efficient at allocating resources then a for-profit system. that's it.

everybody pays for healthcare. healthcare doesn't run on sunshine and cupcakes, it runs on cold hard cash. you either pay for it in taxes or you pay for it in insurance.

>>341547135
I lived without internet for a long time. Go to your local public library to leech for your weekly anime fix.

Hack your 3ds.

Panjeet and his poo-in-loo crew?

>But in my defense, it's actually my money, she take it from me. She says that she's manages money better.

Don't be a cuck.

Both of my parents are terrible with money. But I guess that's why I'm good with it. Growing up poor and knowing what not to do.
