I'm actually glad /v/ is starting to realize this series for what it became. Look, Dark Souls is one of my favorite games, but it's not the alpha and omega of combat games. It's not even close. Half of what made it good was the sense of progression and the choices in the world.
That's most of the reason that almost no one cares about DaS2 and 3. Because despite having "better" combat, they lack what actually made Souls work... a good world with true options and replayability. No one cares about later souls games because they shit all over the best aspect of the first two.

DaS isn't any deeper than a typical action game. It's just more punishing.
As a long time fan of action games, going from DMC3/4, Bayonetta, and Ninja Gaiden to DaS games was a joke. The "depth" of the combat usually revolves around hitting a huge parry window to stun and then massively damage your opponent, usually killing them in a single hit, or walking around them in a circle and backstabbing them. Shields are just pure cheese and turn all three games into a joke, where you don't even need to avoid attacks to succeed.
Other action games force you to learn extensive combos, mixups, or different ways to deal with a variety of threats on the screen at any one time by using a diverse moveset that requires frame-by-frame timings.
DaS3 was the worst with this. It really wanted to be an action game, but failed on most levels, allowing you to just roll with i-frames non-stop into powerful counter hits that turned most of the fights into a joke.

these are the basics that came into my mind, I really haven't seen any other action rpg that comes even close to this much mechanics working together.

Easiest way to figure this out is to swing until your stamina bar is empty, then divide the number of swings from your total stamina bar.
