CONFUSION
Song is about a soldier in WWI. I hate how it got associated with some dumb game. It's a complete insult to real soldiers of war. War is not the super cool male power fantasy as portrayed in Metal Gear games.
>Whispers in the air tell the tales of the brothers gone
Song is about an old conflict that is barely remembered.

Do you think the meaning of the song magically changed because it's in a video game?

Everyone associates it with MGSV now. Many think the song is part of the official soundtrack and was made for the game.
And it doesn't even fit. Big Boss didn't really go through that much in the game. He's a pretty standard good guy hero and doesn't go through anything terribly traumatic.

Mike Oldfield is Brtish and wrote it from the perspective of his grandfather.

This always comes up. The metaphor is anachronistic. It fits perfectly well. Art is about conveying emotions rather than simple facts.
Could you come up with a better one?

MGS are power fantasies about super cool guys having fun adventures with hot bitches and super weapons. You WANT to be part of it. You wish you could be Snake. But it's nothing like what real soldiers went through in shit storms like WWI.

what's so bad about power fantasies? don't you have a power fantasy about being cucked?
