No.
For starters, it's exactly the same game.
However, original runs at 480i, the new one can be played in UHD if you so desire, in 60fps.

Sure, some of the backgrounds don't really scale too well beyond 1080p, but the game is still very pretty and atmospheric.
Most people do recommend sticking to 4:3 aspect ratio if possible. Helps with the BGs a bit too. And do not use the new "Modern" control scheme, or play on the "easy" or "very easy" difficulties.
>>
>>341458349
No, what?

REmake's REmaster is literally the same game just with better performance and resolution.

hd remaster has casual controls
>>
>>341459198

that don't look bad for being a PS1 game, or whatever the fuck the first resident evil was on.

that's either the gamecube or the HD version, the ps1 version looks like this.

>>341459343
They added a terrible filter to the backgrounds because they lost the original assets and couldn't render them in HD.

Gamecube version on a CRT is the best looking version.
>>
>>341458349
I have both; the HD version is better. They're the exact same game but the HD version can be customized to your liking.

>>341459521
That's Resident Evil on the GameCube that was a remake of the original PS1 game.

Luckily you don't have to use those.
And why the hell would you? They are just terrible, way more clunky than the "tank controls".

>>341459910
They didn't exactly JUST photoshop filter the BGs, but yes, they are upscaled. In most scenes, however, they are at least passable.

Most of the 3D elements and flat overlays were properly touched up, though. They also improved the lighting and shadow effects.

>>341459521
REmake was released in 2002 on GC, and was a full-blown, proper remake of the 1996 PS1's Resi1.

This HD Remaster is a re-release of REmake on modern consoles and PC.

sarcasm, huh?
sure, it's clear that the game ain't made during HD era, but in most scenes it really does not strike as hard. Things look quite a bit better in motion, especially in scenes with animated backgrounds. The real-time shadows and lighting effects do help the mood quite a bit as well.

PC version has big boobs and bush mods. PC really has everything a man could ask for.
>>

HD seems to blend better with the environment so I'd say it's the prettier choice.
>>
>>341461168
?
wasn't sarcasm.

i would stick with the gamecube version if i wanted to play it again. was just curious what the PC version looked like. i got the GC version back when it came out and played through it a few dozen times and loved it, haven't really felt a need to replay it again

>>341461956
nope

HD is better in pretty much every way. The textures are better, the lighting is better, the characters are prettier. The backgrounds are the only bad thing about the PC version.
>>
>>341461498
The only reason the HD version seems to blend better is because the original is a dolphin screenshot way beyond the game's native resolution. So the things being rendered in real-time, in this case Jill's model, are higher resolution while the prerendered backgrounds are stuck in their original 480.

Like I said, when played on a CRT, it looks much better.

And worse
>>
>>341462318
that's because it's on a CRT so everything looks equally terrible

I can't believe someone on this board is unironically arguing that CRT looks good
>>
>>341460945
>>341462059
is there a mod that fixes that?
I remember that RE 4 had a crazy detailed hd fan remake so I´m wondering
>>
>>341462278
backgrounds, on average, by far take up the majority of the screen while playing.
>>
>>341462586
games were designed with CRT in mind back then you literal retard for doing things like blending and softening edges
>>
>>341462660
And they are mostly passable. Only a small minority look outright bad, and the mansion in general looks good.

I'd rather have bits of the screen look really good than have everything look terrible.
>>
>>341462892
...because the quality is really, really bad

thanks for making my point for me I guess
>>
>>341462586
For most games, you'd be right, but we're dealing with prerendered background here which never look good beyond their native resolution.

Your choice here is to play the game in SD or in HD with shitty filters.
>>
>>341462619
You'd have to literally recreate every prop, re render the scene in HD then spend however much time doing the digital art on top of that. No, Capcom couldn't find a reasonable solution other than just upscaling the old renders, a fan project would take a ridiculous amount of time and skill. If it could have been done in a reasonable timeframe and small budget Capcom would have done it themselves.
>>
>>341462318
You're totally ignoring the fact that HD Remaster also has new dynamic shadow effects and model's shelf-shadowing.
>>
>>341464468
Which is nice, so are the new models and textures. But the filter is just so goddamn ugly it more than cancels out any improvements they made.
>>
>>341465139
The improved contrast in the backdrops does help them to pop out and be more visible in most cases.

Like said, the game looks nice for the most part, with a small, visible dip in quality around the Residence area. If you want to fool your eyes a bit, just play at 720p with the FXAA on. Played it myself on a big TV like that via laptop + USB gamepad, and it was sweet. Definitely beats trying to play the GC original on a modern 40" LED screen.
