Are there any good post apocalyptic games WITHOUT zombies? I'm not saying zombies make a game automatically bad, but it's extremely derivative and makes it impossible to take the setting seriously.

Fallout. Kinda.

>>
Yeah I hear ya OP

Fallout is kinda one of them because feral ghouls they're not zombies exactly and they're not the only enemy and they dont present an unstoppable threat.

What I really want to see though are more post-apocalypse games with human enemies like gangs and factions, set in a world ruined by something other than muh zombie plague.

And even more than that I'd like to see a post apoc game set after a robot uprising like Terminator, and you have to fight against machines that roam the land looking for any and all humans to kill, that would make a fun and new enemy, especially if the common weapon is a laser or plasma type weapon, maybe railguns so its less generic and theres more variety in weapons.

Robot enemies hunting humanity to extinction is an underrated setting.

Okay so to expand on this I just got an idea for a cool vidya setting

>humanity in near future
>colonized many worlds in the solar system
>disputes and tensions develop between the colonists and the Earth nations
>colonies declare independence
>war erupts
>colonists are still low in number compared to the Earth so they focus on robot armies to augment their infantry as manpower is too precious to waste
>gradually they leave the business of fighting Earth forces to machines more and more
>more and more advances in their AI and abilities, starting to inflict heavy losses on Earth forces
>but still many colonists die, the colonial forces start to rely more and more on machines alone
>then the colonists decide to link up all the machines to a supernetwork, and build a base on Enceladus to house it, this AI will coordinate, lead and issue attacks between all machine forces on its own
>the AI goes rogue however, and all robot forces become hostile to all humans
>colonials launch a last ditch desperate effort to destroy the AI on Encaladus, massive battle between the outmatched colonial forces and the machines they built
>small squad succeeds in infiltrating and damaging key components of the AI, weakening it temporarily but they sacrifice themselves to do so
>rest of surviving humans flee to Earth, which rejects them and relegates them to the Earth
lunar colony
>long pause between any further contact with the machines...

You would play as different members of the Colonial forces first, and be there in the the first battle where AI goes rogue, and play as a member of the infiltration squad that sacrifices itself to damage the AI for some time.

Then you switch to playing as a soldier in the Earth Forces, its 3 months after the incident youre stationed on the Earths lunar colony to provide security for the mass of new Colonial force arrivals and sweep up and arrest any surviving members of their military..

Warning alarms sound- the machine fleet is coming.

You fight desperately but the overwhelming might of the machine forces is too much, they fight stronger and harder, whatever damage to their AI that had been inflicted has been repaired and the AI has even upgraded itself.

You get orders from your superiors to abandon the Moon, to leave the hundreds of thousands of colonial prisoners there to die, you have no choice but to obey, Earth will need every man for its defense, massive Earth fleet leaves the moon but the machines dont engage, they are focused on killing the humans that built them, that fought with and against them, its a slaughter and the Moon is now occupied by machine forces.

They set to turn the moon into a staging base for the invasion of Earth as per the AI's orders, and Earth prepares for war. A new Earth government is formed to coordinate the defense of Earth now, and everyone is split on whether or not to create machines of their own to augment their forces, huge debates erupt over it and waste a lot of resources and money on it.

Eventually they decide against it, and work on constructing railguns to and rockets to bombard the moon, the machines on the moon too start to bombard Earth from the moon, like Hitlers V2's on London. But everyone knows the main invasion is coming, and Earth does their best to prepare.

And I lost interest, maybe I'll expand on this later, I only wrote all this down here to share the idea but also to save for later whatever

There was also some Terminator game like Battlefield terminator set with humans vs. machines

It played like a Battlefield game, you had vehicles and weapons on both sides, ruined Earth cities as maps, capture the control point type gameplay.

I remember reading about it in PC Gamer but I never got to play it, I forgot the name of it, and its probably long dead now.

If its faithful to the book and film(which is the only movie I've seen that is 100% faithful to its book) it would be a walking simulator.

Maybe through the eyes of a raider it could work, but then again The Road's setting is pretty generic, what made it great was the story.

>The game is set in 2029, when Skynet (robots) and Tech-Com (human) forces are battling for the world. The player may join the Skynet terminators or the human resistance. The multiplayer portion of the game is provided through GameSpy.

>The game was poorly received by critics. GameRankings gave it a score of 27.67%,[2] while Metacritic gave it 25 out of 100.[3]

>Jamie Madigan of GameSpy called the game a "bad imitation of Battlefield 1942", and noted the poor matchmaking and lack of dedicated servers for online play.[5]

I wish someone would make a modern, better one

Go ahead, name even 5 that aren't part of the Terminator franchise you cunt.
>>
>>341452731
It's not the best game ever made, but the atmosphere and tension alone made me finish I AM ALIVE.

You can probably find it for $5-$10 and it's definitely worth that much if you want a semi-realistic, mildly difficult post-Apoc survival adventure game.

The combat is actually pretty neat and inventive -- guns and bullets are insanely rare so you spend most of the encounters threatening assailants with an empty gun while you try to find a way to escape before they realize the gun you're pointing at them is empty.

And yet you still didn't explain in any constructive way how its shit, or how its cookie cutter or generic.

And I'm still waiting for those 5 examples, not from the Terminator franchise, still waiting, come on if its so generic then there must be tons of examples out there of this exact premise
>>
>>341457773

>>341458870
It was reeeeeally fucking bad. I was a superhuge T2 fan as a kid, and when T3 came out, I was about 15? My dad bought it for me. Couldn't find a server more than once or twice a day. When I did, the matches lasted like... 2-3 minutes. The maps were tiny as shit, the vehicles were only on a handful of maps, the weapons felt like peashooters.

There's probably a 2142 TC that does the Terminator franchise more justice.
>>
>>341461972
It's simply boring, as in nothing I read sounded interesting in any way. It made me think of fan fiction.
I can't name 5 video games where I'm required to staple my dick to the monitor but I'm sure it wouldn't be any fun. Perhaps there are aren't any games featuring your shitty idea because it's such a shitty idea. No need to get angry though, I'm sure others reading this topic really found your ideas to be ground breaking.
>>
