Even the diagnosis 100 years ago were pretty shakey. The actual evidence in studies in autism is pretty limited and more recent studies have put more light to it, but the scientific community is still in the dark when it comes to autism.
Most of the studies and talks surrounding it regard just diagnosis of the disorder and have no real idea about pathology and much less treatment.
