They tried making it an RPG instead of improving the sandbox aspects of the game.
What's the problem with hunger and beds? One gives you incentive to farm and breed animals, the other allows you to skip the night and go back to exploration.

I played since I think beta 1.4 or 5.
Back then multiplayer servers were more about working together, making friends, and creating towns.
Nowadays you got all this stupid shit on servers like Hunger games and all these mini games that break the game.
There was a plug in called MCMMO that added skill progression to the game to make hours of mining give you a small boost. I loved it. It was all I needed on a server, really.
Then, they added things like the end that block the best items in the game behind an unrealistically hard challenge. I mean seriously? Using those end stones to find a small stronghold on an infinite map?
In my opinion, they should have focused on adding to the environment and building mechanics of the game, and also prioritize combat for people who wanted to do that more.
In the end, they chose to add pointless endgame garbage.
Is Minecraft actually bad? I played it again and it doesn't feel all that different since back when I was fucking around in Beta.
