I've always felt that Platinum's output has been inferior to Clover's, but Vanquish, Revengeance, and W101 are still really good games.
As far as board respect goes, there's something refreshing about a group that says what they want and sticks by what they do no matter what. See also: Senran Kagura's Takaki.
Their last good game has been Bayo 2 in 2014. Just look at how many trash they have released since

They're a mercenary studio comprised of lots of people who get sorted and mixed into different teams for different projects, and generally the quality of the end-product depends on what levels of freedom, budget, and time they're afforded. So when they have none of the above and it's done by their lesser-known people (the Activision games) their work is tantamount to shovelware. When they have all of the above and it's their best people working on it (Vanquish, Bayo, W101) their games are some of the best around.
People tend to focus on the latter rather than the former, and think too much of Platinum as one group of people with one producer and one director.
