That's forwards compatibility, not backwards compatibility. In 10 years, Microsoft's new Xbox might very well be backwards compatible with original Xbox One games. Fixed. Most PS3 exclusives flopped and some games like Gran Turismo 5 that sold were so awful that they killed the audience for the entire genre. PS3 slim was an easily affordable blu-ray player compared to the obscenely expensive one a few years back.

What is the problem with this? Seriously this seems like a fucking dream come true. My PC is far stronger than my Xbox, so of course I'd rather play games for the Xbox on the stronger platform. Best of all, I don't have to buy future titles again to play them on PC. This is nothing but a good idea for Microsoft, because they have the option to keep the Xbox One relevant while taking advantage of Scorpio/PC processing and graphics power. They all essentially are running on WindowsOS, so porting a weaker version to the One is going to be easy. Ergo, Microsoft can focus on making games for stronger hardware while keeping the One a living console for years to come. They are providing for both the casual and performance crowds.

Paradoxically though, uncoupling the game physics and framerate is actually bad for the likelihood of getting 60 fps games with no drops. Or even 30 fps ones with no drops.
Regarding most pre-gen 7 games' physics, the play speed itself, was tied to framerate, so if you got a lower than 100% speed the game would actually slow down and feel really bad, like you've probably experienced with NES games when too many enemies got on the screen. Western devs from their PC experience got the brilliant idea that they could achieve better visuals in a trade off for framerate by no longer tying game physics to the framerate. Thus they allowed for 30 fps with drops that would be less noticeable to normies--which led to the rush for better graphics than was technically possible on each platform and they hoped people wouldn't notice the frame drops. Back when game speed was tied to framerate the player absolutely would and would know the devs were shit and couldn't keep a consistent framerate.
