4 was so bad it tarnished 5. 5 was actually really good even if the pacing was agonizingly slow at the start. Takes like 3-5 hours to get to doing fucking anything. Other than that its pretty solid. It combined the most popular systems of the other game. Skill ratings/ranks from 3, the battle system of 1-2, magic features introduced in 4, and brought back the world map like 1-2.
Its really such a shame.

Plugin-based emulators can be finicky, but you can get some fine improvements out of them.
If you want something that just works, use mednafen. In all accuracy tests, it destroyed Sony's official thing on PS3.
