Some retards genuinely think Deus Ex is an RPG rather than a first person shooter for example because it has dialogue choices and character building barely more in depth than call of duty.

Ironically enough I just picked up the "GOTY" edition of dragon age inquisition. I noticed how the character select defaults to human female and that the character creation is more "detailed" then with mass effect, but look significantly uglier.
What's the general consensus on it? I figured since it was only 20 bucks it would be fun for a lark. I assume the multiplayer is dead at this point?

I'd say it's about time, honestly. RPGs have long been lumped together convenience, even when you get more specific. I mean sure, Pillars of Eternity, Age of Decadence and Lords of Xulima are all technically all CRPGs but are also wildly different from one another.

Witcher 3. Rest of them don't even compare.
Skyrim was fun for a while, but eventually you got bored of the world and the horrible characters. The DLCs were quite shit, the story was uninteresting etc.
Cisquisition was just straight up bad. It had it's moments, where a glimmer of the old BioWare showed itself, but those days are long gone.
The Witcher 3 was mature, had better gameplay and lore than any of the games. The main character was a lot more interesting since it wasn't just a self insert and the story, while a bit cliche, was alright. Combat could have been better, but it is miles ahead of the other two. Not to even mention the DLCs. Goes hand in hand with the best expansions I have played, which were the New Vegas expansions.
If outside of those three? New Vegas. Every time. No other post-2010 game which got my interest the same way New Vegas did. The modding community is still strong and I can't believe some guys are working for literally nothing and making better expansions than Todd Shitward and his goons. Truly goes to show how shit Bethesda is nowadays.

RPGs are probably my favorite kind of games. However, I played W3 for about three hours before trying a new game. I just have never had the urge to go back to it. The game has just been sitting there collecting dust for a year. Does the game get a lot better a bit further in?

Out of those 3? The Witcher 3 in a heartbeat. It's now the new standard for open world games.
In terms of actual RPGs? There's quite a lot to choose from and many ways to judge them.
Age of Decadence is pretty great, even if it's lacking in the graphics front. Every character build it viable and you're not forced to play any particular way. You can avoid combat all together if you choose.
