Judging by the comments on the female Link ridiculousness by Nintendo, it seems the dev teams are always hearing feedback and fan reception.
That doesn't mean they changed this game, but MAYBE Shiggy will reconsider the direction he wants the series to go on after this game.

If they implement partners in some form then they will likely be in the form of different tools. They'd likely be more like Pixls, but at least you wouldn't be alone. The paint bucket is the first one, but later you might get a brush, a spray can, a sponge, etc. I get it works best with the Paint Hammer, but just splashing paint around (even if it fits the name of the game best) seems pretty limited.

But Color Splash does look better and the world is more unique
