There's just something about a differently-colored controller that's really attractive. I think it's about the personal attachment. Everyone has a black controller, but not many have a green one, for instance.

Case replacement will be about $8
Back case replacement will be about $5
Bumper/triggers will run you about $3

Optional pieces are the screwdriver needed to take it apart and a solder iron which is pretty much required to replace the face buttons

That's not just for these controllers though. The white controller that comes with the xbone s is the same way. These controllers are not shipping till september, by then microsoft will probably roll out the xbone controller v2 with grip and bluetooth for standard colors. I doubt MS will keep those features exclusive to a controller you can't just buy right off the shelf at the store .
