Who built these statues?
>>341381210
Presumably the Chozo.
What I want to know is WHY. Like, Ridley isn't even a native creature to the planet, why the fuck make a statue of a space pirate that may never come to your planet?
>>341381964
Chozo Psychics?
Kraid, Phantoon, Draygon, and Ridley did
Space pierates.
>>341381964
>Presumably the Chozo.
How do you get to that conclusion?
>>341381210
I'd assume the pirates since they're all pirates or found in pirate areas. Then when you beat them, it opens the way to Motherbrain. It was the pirates.
TUUUUUUUUUBES thread?
>>341381964
Maybe it's like Dwarf Fortress, where all the carvers love to make statues/carvings of completely irrelevant events.
>>341381210
non union contractors
>>341381210
better question is how the deaths of the four cause it to move.
>>341382445
It's a Chozo planet filled with statues built by the Chozo. So I naturally assumed that this statue is also by the Chozo, I guess.
I always wonder this about in game architecture and shit
I would be interested in haring their motives/ watching them build it, even if its mundane :(
>>341383271
the chozo built statues of the space pirates?
>>341383271
I guess the crashed pirate ship was built by the Chozo too?
>>341384035
yea, there are chozo statues in there
>>341384194
Oh you.
Chozo made metroids, who do we know they didn't make Kraid, Ridley, Phantoon and Draygon as well?
>They're showing Color Splash tomorrow but not Federation Force
Another delay?
>>341381210
Wasn't it the space pirate crew run by Mother Brain and Ridley (possibly also Kraid along with them) that fucked the Chozo up in the first place? I can maybe see this statue or its Zero Mission/OG variant being canon. Not this one though.
And stupid Nintendo fanboys say SOTN had stuff in levels that didn't make sense...
>>341383686
Excellent pic
>>341381210
It was made by the space pirates, by Ridley's command as a deterrant. He's not the best security chief they've ever had.
>>341382545
Dumbing tubes.
>>341381210
Were Phantoon and Draygon related to space pirates?
>>341386472
yes.
But was Spore Pod?
>>341386472
It's never made entirely clear and since Draygon will never appear in another Matroid game again we'll never really know.
>>341385703
Wait... what in SOTN didn't make sense?
>>341386859
At least according to wikis it was genetically engineered by space pirates.
>>341387093
Don't ask me. I honestly love both SM and SOTN equally a lot though for different reasons, but I remember the "SM>>>SOTN" squad always had this "our level design is superior because how can SOTN even make sense" argument. Not even sure what it was about though.
>>341387315
this comic makes no sens, metroids are an energy source, or battery if you want
>>341385349
They're too embrassed after the last time.
>>341387443
No they aren't. They're biological weapons.
>still no Metroid Prime: Fedora Force news
I mean, I'm still pissed, but that monkey-earred fuck said there would be more discussion about it closer to E3.
>>341381210
space pirates, duh.
they build things when they aren't researching waste holes
>>341387315
To be fair, a flock of metroid are probably more dangerous than ridley.
>>341387159
You mean according to the Super Metroid manual.
>>341387751
They're sort of both. The Chozo originally made them as weapons, and the Space Pirates also used them as weapons. However, when the Galactic Federation studied them, they found possible applications as an energy source if you could get past where the energy actually comes from.
They've never been used as batteries, but the possibility was suggested.
>>341381210
I tend to not ask lore questions about metroid outside of the prime games. It's because I know Sakamoto has a terrible answer in his head for it.
Is every bit of "fauna" on zebes a space pirate?
Samus saves the emu and monkey things at the end of super metroid, but she doesn't give a fuck about your lowly zoomer or ripper.
>>341383686
Draygon and Phantoon aren't even pirates.
Draygon is a zebes native and Phantoon was the ghost of a space ship but is now a tendril of metroid Cthulhu according to sakamoto.
>>341389204
The wiki says Phantoon was a pirate.
http://metroid.wikia.com/wiki/Metroid_1.5
>The catch is that even though Samus is all powerful from her previous item acquisition on Talon IV, she will be limited to use them in certain areas of the ship due to the containment matrix that the Rogue AI has set up all over the ship. This will force the player to handle situations differently than expected, and once the containment matrix is disabled, Samus will be free to use all of her abilities.
It's all Retro's fault. They're the ones who planted this evil idea in Sakamoto's head.
>>341389204
Phantoon is "tapping into the brain waves of Mother Brain" according to the Super Metroid manual but it's never made 100% clear what that means.
>>341388664
In corruption the space pirates have a bunch of dead metroids hooked up to batteries, the scans saying that they still can't figure out how to get the energy out of the metroid.
FUCK YES TUBES THREAD ITS BEEN MONTHS
>>341388960
Eticoons and Dachoras seem unusually intelligent and did help Samus out. I think that's why she saved them.
As far as I know the only confirmed Space Pirates are Zebesians and Kihunters. The natural wildlife may have been modified, however.
i thought it was pretty neat that it seemed like they were trying to get an alien type of feeling with the chozo statues.
looks kinda like a giger space jockey thing
>>341387591
I can already see how it
Tanabe is hesitant of showing Federation Force but is confident people will love Color Splash
>Trailer gets bombarded with dislikes
>>341389761
that's like 90% intentional.
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE FEDERATION FORCE NEWS
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>341389324
It says that because apparently mother brain was controlling it, which is probably what they meant by "tapping into motherbrain's brainwaves"
Sounds like a terribly explained, botched nip translation of "He was being controlled by mother brain psychically".
It was still the ghost of the space ship in super lore, though now Other M has made it canon that he's a universe sized outer god and the form we see is just a piece of him poking through, who's associated with some cursed relic that ancient chozo astronauts carried with them on the wrecked ship, which is now a chozo ship (despite having really shitty looking tech and ghosts that look human)
>>341389761
Giger is exactly how I felt when I first saw those chozo statues, then again this was also back in the day after the whole Alien trilogy happened so everybody knew about it.
>>341390014
Well, I guess if anything is going to be retconned into being an Old One, it's the ghost squid.
>>341390014
>Other M has made it canon that he's a universe sized outer god and the form we see is just a piece of him poking through
They put that into the concept art and a Smash Bros. trophy, but that didn't make it into the actual game and if we cross our fingers and believe maybe it never will.
>>341390210
>>341390430
that looks so stupid.
REMEMBAH ME SAMMY?
>>341390457
>>341390581
And that is why we all have to cross our fingers and believe.
>>341389875
yeah it had to be.
honestly they spooked me pretty bad when i was a kid because of how "alien" they looked.
the atmosphere of the game really added to that.
>>341389761
That's because the thing IS based off the jockey.
If you look at the Big Dental Patient prop most people saw a trunk (in giger art it was breathing tube coming out of the sternum, but this was lost in the finale prop) conntected to the sternum. The west imagined it to be like a boney elephant trunk or something but it also looks like a break.
The Torzio and the naked, scaley, concept of Chozo (I really hate the new manga inspired designs that give them feathers) always had bizzar parrot like beaks facing into their sternum even when facing forwards, which could only be a reference to the space jockey design.
There are countless other references, like the metroids being xeno morphs jelly fish edition, the constant detonation sequences and Sakamoto's intent since Fusion to make the space federation into Weyland-Yutani.
>>341390430
Have an English translation.
>>341390743

>>341390014
>he's a universe sized outer god and the form we see is just a piece of him poking through, who's associated with some cursed relic that ancient chozo astronauts carried with them on the wrecked ship
Source? All I remember the concept art saying was that he was an inter-dimensional being that we couldn't see all of because he exist in multiple dimensions. I've never heard any of this outer god stuff, much less anything about being universe sized or cursed relics.
>>341389204
How does a ship get a ghost? Space ships are inanimate.
Do you see it yet?
>>341391182
>>341390430
I don't mind the concept, even though the ghost of a space ship is more original.
I hate it more for the fact that the mystery of the Wrecked ship was downgraded to "Ancient Chozo ship". It seems that sakamoto's idea of the Chozo is less vast than Retro's idea. Retro sees the chozo has having no real home world and countless isolated worlds implying they had a massive empire at some point.
Sakakmoto has a fixation on zebes and seems to almost imply that zebes is their core world or only world they inhabited by the time Samus was born, and implies they came to the world at a point before their technological mastery due to the wrecked ship appearing alien to the surrounding stuff you see in super.
The wrecked shipped seemed like some sort of unrelated alien ship that was there since before the chozo even colonized zebes and that is what made it so great.
>>341390937
i really wonder what the guy who had to build this must have thought.
>>341390430
That sounds cool as fuck. I don't know why people are against it so much. Samus has already defeated a ton of aliens, why not move on to creatures the size of a small moon now?
>>341391497

>>341389678

>>341381210
That's a good point. Who DID build those statues anyway?

>>341389761
>>341390210

Dudes, Metroid has ALWAYS been very deeply inspired by Alien. It's probably one of the first to ever rip it off/homage it. Pretty sure the plot of every 2D game has been inspired by every Alien movie, to the point where they directly correspond to each entry of the movie series. Personally what I love about Metroid is that although it takes a heap of inspiration from the Alien franchise, it kind of does its own thing with it. Like the gameplay isn't much like what you'd expect an Alien game to play like, pretty much.
I wonder if now that we have Prometheus and the upcoming Alien movies, if future Metroid titles will be inspired by those movies.
>>341391426
I might have exaggerated it, but I took the "spanning multiple dimensions" part as it being massive.
But I remember them mentioning the eye is the only piece in our world and the body is only a part of it.
The old god idea is self explanatory, that's literally how you describe and outer god.

>>341392331
>>341391583
Giger was on the set and spray painted it.
He could have sprayed the "trunk" black to show that it was a breathing tube but they were trying to keep it cheap.
Also, Giger is defined by bio-mechanical concepts where you can't tell what is flesh or what is metal, so the creature is pretty much thoroughly integrated into the machine.
Of course AvP comic nerds came up with a retarded design that ignored the bio-tech fusion and then Ridley Scott rapped it by making it a suit that pasty white welshmen wear when delivering space aids.

>>341392286
Supplementary comic
>>341392952
How would you even feed a metroid anyway? Just throw mice in there like you're feeding a snake? The fact that they need to eat energy from living things must make them really expensive to feed, since you need to keep the food alive too.
>>341397169
Well the concept art still says it and I remember Sakamoto explaining it in more detail.
>>341393197
They're doing Recore.
>>341396365
I assume that Ridley, being a space pirate, is from the space pirate home world in Prime 3.
>>341397595
Could be like a Leviathan like in Farcape, It was an alien ship prior to other M, it could have had an organic component that became Phantoon after death.
Or perhaps since this is a japanese game, the old Shinto belief of divine animism after 100 years is applied here, where Phantoon is a yokai born of the ship and the souls of it's crew.
>>341398564
The yokai thing is interesting, but since there are so many old ruins and such in Metroid games it raises the question "Out of all the ancient old things, why did just one ship become alive?"
>>341396365
Other M doesn't imply Ridley is a native to Zebes, or does it?
>>341398313
I think retro implied space pirates don't have an actual home world and just steal shit from everyone else, such as zebes. The race gives no fucks about pollution or anything so I doubt whatever world they're native too still exists.
I always wondered if Ridley was perhaps some sort of mutated Chozo.
>>341398907
>Other M doesn't imply Ridley is a native to Zebes, or does it?
No, it doesn't really. They mention that they cloned stuff from the gore all over Samus' suit and assumed it was all Zebes wildlife, but there's no actual confirmation on where Ridley comes from.
>>341398236
Which looks really good btw.
And that's not actually Retro, that's Armature, basically made up of a few guys who left Retro after MP trilogy I believe. Also it's a collaboration with a few other devs and Keiji Inafune's involved iirc.
>>341381210
>yfw it's a super famicom controller except red and blue are switched
>>341398907
If space pirates don't have a home world, why is there a planet called space pirate home world?
Is it just a god forsaken rock they picked as a base since it's constantly raining acid and fuck you if you try to get in here?
And since most space pirates seem to be the same species, I assume they must have a homeworld somewhere.
Hell, maybe the fact they live in a acid rain planet is why they're pirates. Gotta steal to survive.
>>341403054
Because the Gfed doesn't seem to know it's name.
>>341403441
this
maybe they know what the space pirates call it but it is something like SCREEEEEEEEEEECH so it makes more sense to call it that
>>341398232
Concept art isn't canon and I can't find any Sakamoto quotes about it.
>>341403054
>If space pirates don't have a home world, why is there a planet called space pirate home world?
I'm pretty sure that was A Space Pirate Homeworld and not THE Space Pirate Homeworld. They have multiple Homeworlds.
As for Ridley, doesn't some manga explain that he's from a species of space dragons from somewhere?
It was me.
>>341403054
They probably do have a real homeworld, but they also very commonly steal entire planets and displace the natives. Zebesians aren't even from Zebes, they just call themselves that because fuck you we live here now.

Good third person metroid game when?
They really could have done the Other M 3D-2D swap thing well on a gamepad. Oh well.
But hey, BotW is getting a bunch more RPG type elements put into it. So maybe there's hope for my other wanted Metroid mechanic, getting more upgrades than you can equip at once balanced out with some energy tank-like 'capacity' upgrades to collect. It's a bit like FedForce's weight system, but really I got the idea fromMass Effect 3.
>>341404597

>>341406495

>>341404715
Motherbrain probably built it as a device that detects the life signs of her strongest minions so that it destroys itself should they die, because she's like an anime villain who will only fight you after you've beaten her ginyu force.
It's a reference to the Krait/Ridley door from the original metroid, don't dwell on it.
>>341406998
Yeah, but why did that original door exist as well? I get that it's just a gameplay mechanic so you can only get there after making sufficient progress but they could of just had another colored door you need a beam for or something.
>>341407103
Because you have a feedback of your achievement by seeing each statue change?

Space Pirates
>>341407418
I believe this is one of the originals.
In any case, TUBES are a joke based on Metroid's level design including small corridors to accommodate the Morph Ball, even in Space Pirate controlled areas. The implication being that the pirates build these tubes they have no use for but Samus can access to infiltrate them. Why would they do this? Because they obviously have an obsession with TUUUUUUUUUUUUUBES.
>>341381210
The game developers.
>>341406876
Prime 2 hand pirates with hands too.
>>341406495
They're extremely polymorphic insect lizard things that are then obsessed with genetic mutation and mechanical enhancement. Now the Retro probably just wanted pirates with hands so they could conceivably use technology like computers and whatever else they need to run their experiments. Hard to do that with pincers.
But in universe, you can see it like this. Given that Prime 3 again shows clawed space pirates instead of pincer pirates, it might be assumed that they are clawed by default and the pincer ones are some sort of specialized attack forme. You only see the pincer in specifically offense oriented operations (defending the Zebes base, scouting Aether) and the claws around their science teams, engineers, etc. (the rest of the Prime series).
The game devs - late to the thread not sure if that's been said before lul
>>341403750
>As for Ridley, doesn't some manga explain that he's from a species of space dragons from somewhere?
No, he's a hig-ranking genetically modified Pirate
>>341409854
In prime he's clearly another species, the pirates even have a weird name for it, geoform something.
Where the Ing the dark version of sentient Phazon?
>>341410806
Phazon is dimensionally unstable, so when it collided with a highly energized planet it created a dark matter version of the world.
Phazon spawns phazon life forms, so presumably some got transformed into dark matter entities rather than phazon.
I just beat this game for the first time today. Only got 67 %percent item completion. I wanna play it again and get 100%but it would only slow my time down and I'd still get the same ending.
