Balmung I guess, all the other servers feel dead, doesnt help the fact that the game is already pretty much a single player mmo. to answer your question no, I've been playing mmos since I was in middle school (2007) and the so called "death of mmos" already happened years ago. WoW's degradation specifically is the fault of Blizzard, and mmorpgs are such a big investment that other companies either don't pursue them or fuck it up initially. That's what is causing the actual "death of mmos".
Socialization decreasing is the result of most players being experienced mmo players and not needing to talk to other people or work with other people to progress. it's the exact opposite of what you think the problem is. more new players would be much better for the mmo community.

dungeon finder was a necessary evil and implemented improperly. being able to do dungeons without any sort of attunement in WoW was a huge mistake. the duty finder in ff14 is much better as a result of attunement being necessary for accessing dungeons/trials at the unlocked level.
if you played wow before dungeon finder was a thing, you knew the difficulty in finding a party to do level appropriate dungeons. it would take way longer just to assemble a group for a simple dungeon like wailing caverns, and then having everyone assemble at the dungeon was annoying since no one had mounts until level 40. dungeon finder solved this problem and was regarded as a very useful addition at the start.
the mechanics are the same for the most part, and most of the new mechanics actually reward grouping up with other players while the past mechanics penalized grouping up with other players somewhat (quest drops are only obtainable by one person with limited spawns on a long spawn timer).

I don't really care about doing stuff like Coil or Alexander Savage, so it doesn't bother me that there aren't many groups for it here. There are plenty of houses, we get a lot of people for Hunts and Extreme primals and a healthy amount of new players. It's pretty cozy, i like it there.

It's weird, i've always had a knack for writing and i've played game my whole life. If my good friend hadn't just picked me up a month of WoW time to try and get me to play the game with him I'd probably never been able to stop playing FFxiv. Plan on playing woW with him when he's on and FFxiv when he's off, but we played a fuckton of time WoW today so I'm taking a brake.
People are super chill though, been invited to a few FC's, not able to respond but it's nice that that's there, and I've done quite a few quests with other people around.
