yes.

Yes.

Yes

Yeah, buy the ps4 or xbox one. Games are well optimized.
>>
Easily. It's when it gets to $400 or less when it becomes a meme.
>>
>>341373340
Very much yes, and with a 960gtx even to run every game out on max.
>>
>>341373340
Depends. Just pc or are you including monitor, keyboard and mouse. If you are, then no
>>
Easily. But everyone will laugh at your pathetic rig

A better question would be if you could do it with $400-$500
>>
>>341373340
Assuming you already have a monitor speaker/headphones, mouse and keyboard then absolutely yes.
>>
What about $1000 CAD?
>>
>>341373340
yes I built a new pc for like 600ish bucks but I bought some parts that allowed me to OC a non k processor saving me some cash
>>

is that the obsidian 800?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>
>>341373340
Yes
>>
$800 is actually about the optimal price to performance. After that point, you're paying a premium.
>>
Yes, but anyone planning to buy a PC would do well to wait until near to the end of the year when all the latest gen hardware will be released and fully benchmarked. There should be some better deals by then.
>>
>>341373340
Yes if you build it yourself. If you're a prebuilt faggot then you deserve everything bad that has ever happened to you and/or will happen to you.

i5 6600k
Radeon RX 480
600W Seasonic/EVGA PSU
1TB HDD

You can get it for less than $1000
>>
>>341373340
yeah but I'd wait a few months for the current generation of gpus to roll out and the inventory situation to stabilize
>>
I'd like to get back into games and have been out for roughly four years now but I don't want to go back to being an 360fag. Mostly because I want to play all the Witcher games. Unfortunately, I know nothing of hardware and am a lazy autist.
>>341374241
How well would any of that play Witcher 3 for a reference?
>>
>>341373974

Motherfucker I run DOOM on a 970m on my laptop on max with NO fucking problems, quit bullshitting.

>Oh no my game skipped a frame.
Turn down AA by one, WOW ITS NOTHING!

Sure, but you'd be better off waiting until AMD releases their new GPUs.
They're said to be price/performance kings, but who knows.

i run hairshit in witcher3 on my 970 easily. cdpr patched it ages ago so you can control the aa sampling in the game options, turn it down and it runs fine, though you really only notice it when you're fighting wolves or fiends.
>>
>>341374904
>The Witcher 3

Oh lordy, a game with poorly compressed shit in a game runs like a slug? HEAVENS BE ITS ALMOST LIKE IM BACK IN THE TIME WHEN CRYSIS WAS THE BIG BENCHMARK TOO!

>How to make Witcher 3 not run like ass on a 970m.
>Turn AA down.
Wow its fucking nothing times two.

Seriously, even Fallout 4 played like utter dog shit on my old 780 due to one of the AA options having a bug in it, its been since patched, now runs like a dream.

Stop acting like these games require a fucking liquid cooled super computer to run anymore when half the shit can be ran on a toaster.
>>
>>341375469
Tldr; backtracking
>>
>>341374507
At dense forest I get drops to ~45-50fps on a 390X while maxing the game out. You can still lower a few settings like foliage distance to gain fps, but then it stops being 'maxed out'
>>
>>341375303
>Muh cherry picked two games.
Ok, fine then, tell op to go spend half his budget on a GTX 1080, or to wait till the 480's come out then.

You lose nearly nothing from turning MSAAX16 down to MSAAX8 or so.
>>
>>341375543
>muh feefee's
>>
>>341373340
$1000 is the number you should strive for. you get the best bang for your buck, with current-gen PC with an i5 and $300-$400 card, plus 16 GB of good memory and an SSD.

Once you start raising your budget you get diminishing returns for your money.
>>
>>341375663
Battlefront, Witcher, Fallout, BF4, Tomb Raider, I guarantee you that zero of those games play 60+ at max on a 960
>>
>>341375385
You'll get a lot of different opinions on builds, so the best you can do is research and get to your own conclusions. The only things that are almost universally agreed on are the unlocked i5 and 8GB of RAM being enough for gaming, and that you need a PSU from a good brand.
The 480 is my personal choice of GPU because it'll have a really good performance with low price and power comsumption, but we still need a release date (it will be soon, I hope)
>>
>>341373340
Buy a PS4 for under $300 instead
>>
>>341376140
I play all of those on a GTX 780.
>>
>>341373340
you need to ask yourself some questions.

do you play all the mmo grindy shooters with cinetrash effects cranked to 99?
do you need a higher res than 1080?
do you even have a remote interest in overclocking?
do you plan to ever use more than one display?

do research and buy only what you need, there's no need to buy a 250mph ferrari machine when all your doing is the video game equivalent of driving 2 blocks down the road for groceries.
>>
>>341373340

Yes, it's called Project Scorpio
>>
>>341375663
You can't max out any AAA game from 2014 onwards with a 960. It's a mid range card with mid range performance, as it should
>>
>>341376370
At max? At 60 fps+? No you don't
>>

>>
>>341374241
What a fucking waste.
First of all, your average vtard doesn't need an unlocked i5 because they aren't going to do a custom overclock ever.
Second off, a 256gb ssd is a huge fucking waste in a $1k budget build. An SSD can be bought at any time and installed later.
Could spend that money elsewhere and get a top tier gpu instead. You can't "upgrade" a GPU once it's been bought and going with a 480 in a $1k build is retarded when a $550 budget build can use the same card and get the same performance.

People give the the worst advice in threads like these, I truly hope no one follows this crap.
>>
>>341376506
Yes, I did, which is why I kept the motherfucker for so long, and if I experienced any slight issue, I just overclocked it a tad and presto.

I only just upgraded to the newest GTX cause I plan on getting into VR later this year with games like Resident Evil 7.

The 780 was a fucking monster man.

You are held hostage by nvidia every single new release if you buy their meme card.

Projecting, it's easy to do and grant youa very good performance boost
>Second off, a 256gb ssd is a huge fucking waste in a $1k budget build. An SSD can be bought at any time and installed later.
That's debateable, but you have your point

You don't need anything higher than a 480 to play at 1080p, so a more expensive GPU will be wasted money. Also with a 1070/980ti you'll certainly be bottlenecked by a locked i5
>>
>>341376857
Well, I dont know what to tell you buddy cuzz I ran Witcher, Tomb Raider, and Fallout on 60 fps.
>>
>>341376745
No, you're just too deep into your lie at this point and won't admit a basic truth. The 970 does not have the capability of running any of those games listed at max settings for 60+ fps

You're either just plain lying or you really don't know your real fps, probably the latter. I would bet my life that it averages in the 40's with some spikes into the 50's and lows in the 30's
>>
in 2013 i bought a pc for 1000$, still runs games on med-high 60 fps
>>
>>341373340
Absolutely not, and anyone who tells you otherwise is a PCfag who is flat out lying.

I followed advice from these dishonest neckeards on how to build a $500 PC that was supposed to outperform a PS4. It does, but only if you turn everything down to medium or fucking low, otherwise your stuck with performance so bad an N64 could probably play games better than this piece of shit computer.

The sub $1000 PC is a meme

I've never found it all to be easy to find a PC that can run some of the more complex games of today AND can fit in my budget.

Normally I relied on consoles like Xbox and PS4 to just be something I can play games on without giving any thought as to whether or not it'll run because every game on them SHOULD be running perfectly, aside from minor things here and there.

With PCs, however, I never really know what I'm getting into or what anything means. What's the difference between a GTX 960 and a Radeon 77NumbersNumbers? What do Quad Cores do and how do they affect my games? Can I find a decent PC like OP that's pretty amazing and won't empty my wallet?

I've wanted to get into PC gaming for such a long time but I don't even know where to start. Is there a guide somewhere I can read that'll help me understand this stuff, /v/?
>>
>>341377083
Post a screenshot then, I'm calling you out
>>
>>341373340
God yes. You can make a computer that out performs both consoles for less than 400. 1000 dollars is a very good budget for a PC.
>>
>>341377132
>No anon you just lie because my equipment is pure shit.
Maybe your card is being bottlenecked by everything thing else thats sub par in your system?
Like what I say or not, I could give two shits less, cause my shit ran it, I played it, and I moved on.

I'm sorry you wasted money on garbage though I guess.
>>
is it okay to buy a prebuilt PC and then just buy a new video card after some time? Not really a graphics freak anyways, just want to play so,e current games without lag.
>>
>>341377245
what do you expect from a 500$ pc

cough up those 500$ extra and it will last through the lifetimes of two or three consoles
>>
>>341377303

>>341377060
>bottlenecked by CPU
Bottlenecked in shit video games like CSGO that don't utilize your GPU to even 50%, except for their broken smoke effects, which max out your GPU and cause your driver to crash when there are too many on the map, sure.
There is no CPU bottleneck in applications that actually use your GPU properly like video encoding and 3D rendering.
>>
>>341377245
What are your fucking specs? Also, why would you listen to /v/ of all places instead of googling good parts you aspie? I built a rig for $450 in 2013 and it ran shit maxed out 60 fps 1080 until late last year, and all I had to do to improve performance was upgrade my CPU.

>>
>>341377694
I'm not sure what you're getting at
>>
>>341377426
I wouldn't really recommend doing that but there's no reason you couldn't, also be aware that most prebuilts come with awful power supplies that can barely power the components it already has, you'll likely need to replace that depending on the card you upgrade to.
>>
Any good prebuilt PCs? Building one yourself seems too stressful.
>>
>>341377303
pcs are simple

8gb ram
any motherboard with sockets that the rest of your shit fits into
an i5 processor
nvidia is better amd is cheaper (graphics card)
a power supply unit that can provide the amount of watt each part requires (as listed on each parts specifications)
and of course you need a hard drive and a case to put it all in
the i5 processor comes with a heatsink, and the case probably comes with some fans

putting it together is like legos

My 390x get bottlenecked by my i5 4460 in games like GTAV and TW3; considering the 480 will have about the same performance, he'll be bottlenecked too. An unlocked CPU is only a bit more expensive, so the performance bump is worth the hassle

I have a PC building business and have built 6 PCs just last month. Lifetime builds probably around 80. A good PC is easy to get under 1k.
For UNDER $800 - especially with Mail in rebates etc.

CPU - i5 6500 - $205
GPU - RX 480 - $200
RAM - 16GB - $60
Case - $40
1151 Motherboard - $80
240GB SSD - $60
1TB HDD - $60
PSU $60
Windows $32

Honestly, we are about to hit a really good era with PC gaming:

>Game visual fidelity is starting to slow down, which means that a lot of newer mid range parts can play a lot of shit maxed out on 1080 or 1440p.
>Prices for last years parts are about to go way down with new card releases and CPUs and can play a lot of shit perfectly.
>New cards can reach 970-980 Ti levels for far less.
>The average consumer can get a cheap 1080p monitor or a decent 144hz 1080p one with a mid range PC build.
>A lot of shit is starting to come out on PC with Microsoft more or less turning W10 into the Xbox One platform, and more Japanese studios starting to port stuff over (and Japanese stuff typically runs on toasters well).

I am going to enjoy seeing a lot of the sales come black friday. Shits going to be pretty big.
