FUCK this game is hard. How do I git gud? I am on the first level and I want to hack shit but I can't because I didn't have enough module things to upgrade to Hack 1.
>>
The game can punish you for not picking your class/stats correctly at the very beginning. BUT, if you didn't get the hack bonus as Navy, it's generally the first thing you should boost. Hacking is by far the most important skill.
>>
>>341373189
>Pick Impossible
>Pick OSA
>Save all the point until you can get PSI hack

My first playthrough was rad as fuck.
>>
The only skills you should focus on are standard weapons, maintenance and hacking. Putting points in anything else is just gimping yourself.
>>
>>341373189
Shoot a bunch.
Hack a bunch.
Maintain a bunch.

Towards the end of the game put some points into melee since the Flesh Maze and SS1 emulation levels are noammo. Don't worry, midgame SHODAN just fucking pelts modules at you, you'll have more than enough to experiment.
>>
Go for standard weapons, hacking and maintenance, thats the best setup for a first time playthrough, put a single point into research later on.
Use your melee weapon as much as you can and remember you can write notes on the map.
Have fun.
>>
Fuck that noise. I went energy weapons, strength, research, and a dash of psi for my first run and it was a blast.
>>
>>341373189
If you want hack things from get go you can create a character with a point in hack skill and maintenance stat.
General git gud advice:
Standard weapons is a good choice for first time player.
Use wrench a lot and invest in melee traits from upgrade stations. You can stunlock pipe hybrids with wrench end get no damage from them every time
Research mutants parts to see their weaknesses and get damage bonuses.
Keep armor piercing bullets for robots, anti personnel for mutants, regular for whatever.
Kill cameras before they spot you, if you got spotted hide somewhere and wait for alarm to be over, because alarm spawn enemies non stop, killing them is pointless since game will only spawn more.
You can use elevator as a storage room as it is present on every deck (just drop your shit on the floor there)
Don't go far in PSI skill tree for your first time, just pick a few quality of life buffs (like CYB +2 for hack/upgrade minigames. The more cyb stat the less red nodes you have)
>>
>>341374842
What about a second playthrough?

I played through this for the first time back in 2012, I'm pretty sure I played the way you suggested the first time around

I just replayed SS1 last week so I'm about ready to replay this one as well
>>
>>341375095
>because alarm spawn enemies non stop
Enemies just infinitely respawn anyway.
>>
>>341375127
Play SS2 with secmod, it will feel fresh as fuck.
>>
>>341375296
But not at the ridiculously fast rate the alarm does.
>>
>>341375127
Second playthrough do whatever the fuck you want.
>>
>>341375296
The alarm respawn rate is "they respawn as soon as you kill some", the regular one is tolerable.
>>
>>341373189
Rebind controls to be not retarded.
Whack everything with a wrench and ignore psychic powers/etc
>>
In retrospect the RPG stuff is really pointless. SS1 feels better
>>
>>341375809
>feels better
I hope we're not talking controls because so much as moving in SS1 feels sluggish unless you've got your finger stitched to the run button.
>>
>>341375767
I found the healing psi really useful, you charge it for a second and it heals you completely

>>
>>341375809
SS1 is literally just "lean around corners and shoot enemies who are practically oblivious to your presence when you're not right in front of them" for 10-15 hours straight

It's a good game, if you treat it like a dungeon crawler. But it does not hold up well to the FPS standards of even 20 years ago
>>
Drop it ,play it's better BioShock kin

How do I rebind the controls? One of my biggest problems is movement keys.

>>
>>341376491
Have you checked options
>>
>>341376405
Mark the map often. Do it for anything you deem significant.

For example: There's often more than 1 elevator in levels, so mark the levels that elevator leads to.
Also mark where the energy nodes and medbays are.
Fucking mark everything basically

Also every time you see a number on a screen, write that fucker down. ESPECIALLY in the CPU rooms. It's important later in the game. You'll be kicking yourself if you don't
>>
>>341376491
I forget, but I remember doing it. It's unplayable without.
>>
I was defeated by the audio logs.

Digging through information to find the right place to go is a headache, and if you quit the game for more than a few weeks booting it up again is too daunting.
>>
>>341376978
Yeah nothing in options to change the movement keys. I will google it.
>>
>>341377136
Why would you quit the game for that long?

SS2 is only like 18 hours long dude. You should be able to complete it in a single weekend
>>
>>341376526
Shodan has stuttering female voice with variable pitch, the Many has spooky whispering male and female voices. But i was confused at first too, thought my character was just hallucinating and those were random spooks
>>
>>341376767
Maybe laser swords are hard to use and do require some training, also, when you upgrade your skills you are using cyber modules to upgrade your mechanical parts, theres an explanation behind it, it's not an abstraction like experience point are, just for giving an example.

Kinda getting this feeling with SS1, I got to a new level but there's just a locked door. So I figure I must have missed something on a previous floor and now I'm just digging through the logs for a clue. I've just gone through the levels so slowly and carefully I don't know what I could have even missed. Been a while since I played this so I can't really remember the areas either

if it says something like "___ access required" it usually means you need to find a key
>>
>>341377463
I find it a real drag. I have trouble deciphering my objective and if you get too into the game and don't pay enough attention to your guide you can miss crucial bits of info that are hard to get back (if at all).

So I end up running around a lot trying to find the right thing to do and the infinite enemies deplete my resources. The worse you do the worse you'll do.

It's just too stressful for me.
>>
>>341378969
I think there are a couple of instances where you need to get access through cyberspace

>>
>>341379649
I played with my old roommate because he likes doing co-op survival horror since I get scared really easy.
>>
>>341379649
It's fun but not very stable, pretty easy too. The nanites are shared between all players (you pick up 10, everyone else get 10), game sometimes crash on level transitions.
Coop was forced by the publisher afaik
>>341379886
I fucking love how goofy Goggles model is, even goofier than deus ex square mouths.
>>
>>341379886
The same as single player except there's multiple goggle wearing fucks running around. That's it. There's no other real changes except everyone gets cyber modules whenever they are picked up. It does make the game easier because you can have a dedicated hacker, gunner, and psi, but the metric fuckton of bugs make it a hassle.

I'm wondering what they'll do with Shodan in System Shock 3, considering that she hacked the very fabric of the universe in SS2.

The story suggests otherwise. Remember that whole shit about the FTL drive being to alter the universe?

As for only possessing Rebecca, you're thinking too small. We don't know what kind of fucked up contingency plans Shodan was able to pull off during the time she had complete control.

Shodan's likened herself to a god before, but this time around that could actually be true.
Think of how amazing it will be to go up against those insurmountable odds. The story could be amazing if they do it right. The possibilities are endless
>>
>>341381538
I'm wondering how hard she'll get her shit pushed in

If you thought that SHODAN having all her plans dismantled by some hacker with no military training in under 7 hours and that getting slapped down as an afterthought by a cyborg of her own design was cool the imagine what could happen in SS3.
She'd probably have trouble stopping a toddler
>>
I bet you SHODAN made a younger backup version of herself that she uploads into a cyborg shell you can have sex with and protect.
