It's the same engine, but I wouldn't call it more of the same. I skipped Triple Deluxe because THAT looked like more of the same to me compared to RTDL (and Hypernova just looks like "press B to win" bullshit, just like RTDL's super abilities), but I feel like Robobot is a much more significant leap from RTDL, so I'm satisfied. Also, the mechs are super versatile and give the player more freedom than Hypernova or Super Abilities. It actually reminded me a bit of the animal buddies, but more mandatory. I'm overall pretty happy with how they were handled.

kirby robobot is the best game so far this year. it is a fantastic game. wooly world is a great game, it is the only yoshi game to be almost as good as the original. paper jam was one of the best mario and luigi games i have played. it is the hardest, it has the best overworld abilities but that cardboard mini game is fucking garbage. super mystery dungeon was, eh, pretty good. i mean i'm not a big fan of doing missions to recruit pokemon instead of them joining you in the dungeons, especially at high levels, and i hate how every pokemon is "one of a kind". i think they fucked it up.

Just bought it today Pre-Owned, powered through the RPG minigame (BASED HAMMER LORD) and full-cleared worlds 1 and 2.

They took the criticisms about rehashing RtDL to heart. That said, the core progression is no different - gotta collect the 100 or so buttfucks. But the stages have heart, the flashback music delves delightfully deep (motherfucking Star Stacker up in this bitch), and the nostalgia isn't laid on too thick like SM3DW and such. Just enough.
amiibo as MWW - pain in the ass (so I'm not keeping the game when I get done with the main story), can tap once per cleared level.
Pacing, nice and fast combat, doesn't slog like TD and RtDL did.
3D Kirby - Good news, full-range 3D Kirby works incredibly well. Granted, this minigame is like a demo, but still.
RPG Minigame - Addicting to see how fast you can beat the bosses - sort of wish The Arena followed this format instead. Anyway, fun but short. Can't really imagine playing with friends, it's so brief.

Kirby games have always had that hidden tinge of darkness underneath them, which left a lot to fan speculation, but Robobot is pretty upfront with the tragedy. Triple Deluxe might be too, though I wouldn't know because I never played it, but from what I do know, the story is handled similarly to this one.
I've always loved that about Kirby games, how it's such a lighthearted series on the outside, but is brimming with all this backstory and emotion if you dig down enough. It's a really good approach to multiple demographic appeal, because they know that kids will most likely skip most of the collectibles and not care about reading the story or optional texts, which is why they hide a lot of the darker implications behind 100% completion and flavor text.

This was the best Dedede battle in the longest time. He first sends his army of miniature close after you, then comes after you with two other clones, and then powers himself up using the Fountain of Dreams. Not only that, but he does a HUGE amount of damage if he hits or even touch you. I wonder if the king will ever top this fight again.Planet Robobot's Dedede fight was ok, but fighting on top of a building with an overview of the city is pretty ballin.
