>Members of the Ubisoft Club will get seven free games this year. Ubisoft is offering the Windows PC downloads in celebration of its 30th anniversary, with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time kicking off the giveaways.

>Games will be available for a limited time and on a monthly basis, with different games offered each month from now through December. The next title will be revealed in mid-July, according to the website.

>To get the downloads, a Uplay account is required. Uplay members must then log in through the PC client to access the free games. A full FAQ explains the download process on the promotion's page.

Meh, might as well.
>>
Even if I have a full year to do it, I still wouldn't jump through the million hoops Ubisoft makes you jump through to get anything done.

I'd just pirate the games and get 10x less hassle.
>>
If they are giving them for free, it is legal to pirate them.

It's literally logging in the website with your uplay account
That's it
They're giving a free game every month

Which nobody has.

Protip, you dense piece of shit.

If your simple and easy process requires a "full FAQ" explaining how to fucking do this, it's not worth the time.

Installing the games and getting an account set up with Ubisoft and uPlay is one of the most taxing, time consuming, and soul draining experiences you can endure when all you want to do is play a fucking game you legally own.

You LITERALLY have to click for your browser to open uplay and it will start installing
Nobody can be stupid enough to fail at this and if that's time consuming and soul draining then you might as well kill yourself

Let me get this straight
You're actually denying a free game with direct download because you prefer looking for torrents and direct dls of a game from 2003?
This is definitely the stupidest thing I've ever seen on /v/
>>
>>341368781
The fact that you think piracy is akin to crawling through shards of broken glass is laughable. I very literally (not figuratively) go to one of my several active websites and have my veritable pick of the fucking litter for all of Ubisoft's games. I don't have to worry about trudging through dead links or abandoned torrents because I'm actually fucking competent at using the Internet.

Holy shit, man. Get it through your head.

PIRACY IS FASTER, EASIER, AND MORE COMPREHENSIVE THAN UBISOFT EVEN IF UBISOFT IS GIVING SHIT AWAY FOR FREE.

This just in: A lot of pirates turn to piracy because of convenience; not price.

That's why steam is so successful. It's extremely easy to use.
It's why uplay is so unsuccessful. It's extremely troublesome and annoying to use.
>>
>>341369143
Yes, because dealing with cracks and cracked patches to get a fucking Ubisoft running game is as easy as literally pressing "redeem" then "download" and then "play".

I agree, piracy isn't bad and it's not hard, but arguing it's easier than getting games for free is like next level autistic, edgelord.

Oh boy let me tell you a story about Uplay you dumb nigger faggot.

>buy HAWX 2 on Steam
>oh it needs Uplay, never used that before
>well just let me go their website and make an account
>then launch their DRM launcher through Steam's DRM launcher, can't have too many layers of protection of course
>huh no connection
>let me try again
>still no connection, well i'll be!
6 hours of troubleshooting later:
>well gosh darn it, Uplay starts in offline mode by default and the option to put it in online mode is hidden under miles of sub-menus
>scratch that, it still won't go online, but luckily I can save this batch file to my desktop and force it to
>looks like it needs to redownload all the game files even though it was already downloaded through Steam, oh well!
>ok it only took an entire day but now we can play HAWX 2!
>oh no we can't because the game flat out doesn't work with any input devices and is just an all around hot mess of bullshit
>connection lost
>lets try again and see if I can fix this terrible
>connection lost
>your connection to the Uplay servers has been lost! back to the main menu with you, this is an offline singleplayer game of course we can't let you play without an unwavering connection to the Uplay servers which I assume are hosted in Bangladesh
>ok I give up, maybe Steam will refund the game
>oh no they won't refund Uplay games, I have to go the Ubisoft website
>hey guys your launcher is all around terrible and this game flat out doesn't work, if I had pirated this game I could have been playing it 12 hours ago, I want a refund
>your Uplay account has been banned, reason given: advocating piracy

Then I never payed money for a Ubisoft game again and missed out on such incredible titles as Assassins Creed: Unity, Splinter Cell Blacklist and Watchdogs.

The end.

Also kill yourself you impacted anal blister.

Lol you can get any Uplay game for like $2 on key trading sites like G2A.

I can buy Farcry 4 and Watchdogs keys for like $3 right now, and I don't even fucking want to.
They had to drop the price of Rainbow 6 Siege to $15 because nobody is buying it and it's fucking dead.
They can't give them away.
People get that shit free with graphics cards and rather than install Uplay they sell the game code on key trading sites for pennies.

Exactly what I would expect you to say when uplay is remarkably inconvenient.

I'm not against Ubisoft. I'm against shitty software practices that are intrusive, distracting, and unnecessarily time consuming in addition to convoluted and not uniform across all games.

>But instead of getting it for free legally you prefer to download it illegaly for free
When I pirate it I don't have to do anything different than I've already done hundreds of times before. It's streamlined. I don't have to install anything new, sign up for anything new, update anything new, install another new thing to help update the new thing I just installed, update the new updating thing used to update my new thing's updates. I don't have to worry about more updates when I run my new thing every single time I open this new bloated monster on my machine.

When I pirate all I get is the game. Nothing more. And that's all I want: to play the fucking game.

But seriously, actually kill yourself. I'm not joking, take a garden hose and some duct tape, tie off the hose on the exhaust of your car then climb inside and run the engine. Run the other end of the hose through the window and try to trap as much carbon dioxide as possible inside the car. Stay like that until you feel drowzy and fall asleep. You don't have any loved ones, nobody will miss you, you're just taking up fucking space that you don't deserve, just fucking do it, I know you've thought about it before, think about how easy it would be. There would be mess, no cleanup, you'd be gone painlessly and then this can all end. You know deep down that you don't deserve to be alive and that nobody will ever really love you or care about you. Fucking do it, kill yourself, do everyone you know a favor and get out of their lives.

About as much time it takes you write up one post bitching about it.

>Man I hope that you're baiting
I'm really not. Getting one free game they decide I should get is not better than getting all of the free games I want to get. Arguing this point would be catastrophically retarded.

>Technically you have to
Apparently you don't know what a hyperbole is. I was illustrating that you were underestimating how many actual clicks it would take someone to do what you claim. This is because nobody is poised with their uplay account up and running, ready to go at a moment's notice. Most people don't even have a uplay account. Most people don't even have uplay installed. All of these steps just make actually getting what they decide to give you more and more tedious. Which is the point I was making from the beginning and yet you've still got those blinders on.

>I can't honestly figure out how sick you have to be to actually go through all of this hassle to NOT redeem a free game only because uplay is required
Because uplay is not required if you pirate. Unless uplay is going to show up at my house in a tight skirt and perky nipples offering to suck my crooked, skinny dick dry, I'm never going to give it the time of day.

That's what it means to fuck your company's reputation.

People hold a grudge.

What about all of the game's updates. Launcher updates. Updater updates.

You're still ignoring the main point. However convenient you claim it is, piracy will always be more convenient.

Not only that, but you also never addressed the most important part.

When you pirate, you get to choose what games you get. All you're doing is taking the decade or more old scraps they don't mind giving away for free.

How do you justify that? How can you say that's preferable?

First of all, I'm not. I haven't pirated an Ubisoft game in several years and it has nothing to do with Uplay and everything to do with the games themselves not interesting me.

Secondly, it's not retarded to do so when piracy is easier and faster and comes with none of the downsides of installing bloatware coupled with intrusive DRM.

What I want to know is why you're railing on this so hard.

Why would you care if people don't want to use uplay? How would that impact you at all?

Why would you care that people prefer piracy?

Why would that bother you so much you argue for almost an hour?
>>

You are unwilling to accept that Ubisoft tore its reputation to shreds with awful business practices that were geared towards hurting the average consumer. Their bad decisions are partly responsible for some of the worst cash-grab practices still used by awful publishers and developers to date. Their efforts drove more people to piracy than you could possibly imagine.

You don't know this because you weren't around. You didn't experience this.

People hold a grudge against Ubisoft for making video games in general worse than before in their own way. Their response to that criticism was insulting, and they continue to put very little effort into actually making their customers feel valued.

If you need some evidence of that, please think hard about what this "free game giveaway" is meant to accomplish. It's an effort to get more people to spend money in their exclusive store. A really bad effort because they're unwilling to give up anything of actual value or sacrifice anything that would accomplish anything. They're letting you suck video games through a needle's eye and you're standing there wondering why nobody but you is licking their lips.

But this was one of the few good ubisoft games worth playing
So who cares about grudge and uplay, think of it like a custom installer for a good game
>>
>>341377868
They're games one of their several departments decided would no longer be profitable to sell at low cost anymore and they could instead use it to garner a more positive reputation from people like you in an effort to increase their profits with other games people are now exposed to once they get hooked into using their store and uplay.

The games they're giving away for free crossed that threshold. That line of "no longer valuable to sell" so they're giving them away for free.

This is basic stuff. Understand the motivations behind their actions. Understand the intention. They're not doing this because they're nice and they like you. They're a business. They want your money.

This makes you an advocate for them making money by trying to convince people on 4chan to participate in this farce.

This makes you, paid or not, a marketer. A shill.

>think of it like a custom installer for a good game
If I have to do mental gymnastics to convince myself that something I'm putting on my machine is anything but exactly what it is, I don't put it on my machine.

I can send you a really nasty rootkit, and as long as you tell yourself it's just a really nifty screensaver that does funny things on your PC when you're not using it everything's perfectly OK.

Obviously you wouldn't let me do that, because it's not a screensaver, it's a virus. It's not a custom installer, it's bloated, intrusive DRM. Not even cleverly hidden.
