Reviewers were saying unskippable dialog sequences all over the place, the story is alright, but not special, but the real killer for me was a huge rant about some mission in game

Can't say I care for the padding that plagues most long rpgs, SO2 and 3 were especially bad with their first halves imo so I welcome a shorter, more focused experience.
However I'd expect a big postgame dungeon from a Star Ocean, and for the game to have a fair amount of postgame bosses that push the boundaries of its combat system.

SO3 is by far the best.
It's fucking huge with lots of varied areas and different places, also loads of extra post and extra content, costumes, even that fucking fighting mini game.
The crafting system is kinda shitty when it comes to creating items but weapon synth is fun as fuck especially with the multiple effects like shooting elemental balls and shit on hit.
And most important of all the gameplay is FUN as fuck, holy shit I really have not ever had so much fun in any other roleplaying game as far as the gameplay goes. Heck magic itself being real time and flashy is GOAT. And melee is also pretty good, maining different characters breathes some fresh air to it as well.
The story and characters have ALWAYS been trash in SO games.
People just get anally devasted by the twist in 3 but at least it tried something new instead of "random ancient evil men have awakened to destroy the world".
