Atmosphere in Velen was fucking great. The fact that the Leatherworks and the Dying workshops in Novigrad were outside the city walls was I thing I liked a lot aswell. Yes. It's increibly well written. Great dialogues, plenty of social satire and humorous scenes. It also captures the Pagan/slav thing well. Some parts will undoubtedly be lost on people not from Poland, but there's a lot of references that are sure to be understood by everyone.
Asides from that, it has interesting designs and graphics, with it's high contrast, and colourful scenery.
The music in the game is really good as well, although I feel like it could use a couple more tracks.
As for gameplay alone, it's fun, but not extremely spectacular. I find there are a few mechanics that could be exploited to make the game a piece of cake, but since it's only single player, it's not that much of a problem.
Overally I'd say it's worthwhile, it's not THE best, definitely one of the best games in the past couple of years.

It may be a bit biased, because I played it very recently, but I fucking loved Bloodborne. The Victorian setting, the Lovecraftian astral horror, chilling scenes, great music, and possibly the best designs I've seen, along with fast paced combat and the story hidden in the typical From narration. Really, I was impressed by this game in almost every regard.

You have no idea how things actually happen do you? When games are not well known, obviously there will be a much smaller number of people discussing it, and it is likely that the majority of the group that discusses it would be fans of the game since it has their attention without being marketed.
But if the game is well known, you would obviously get more people to pay attention it. And that means you get people from a wide variety of demographics to come and judge it by their standards.
So basically little known games tends to be somewhat of a circlejerk, while well known games is under the scrutiny of numerous different people.
Obvious as people stop paying attention to the games or when the game gets old, it gets settled down back again to a much smaller group, which more often than not would be the fans of the game.

If you can handle monotonous combat and horse riding to get some good quests and story, sure. It's best in small doses. Don't try to power through it, you will just get exhausted. It's 200 hours of gameplay with all the DLC for like 40 eurobucks when it goes to sale.
Frankly, I think the fast traveling is just the most annoying and boring thing in the game, even if it's immersive. Having to ride to a signpost is just so fucking boring and annoying.
