It's a weird mishmash of dystopian literature. Joy is obviously a reference to Soma and the protagonist's job censoring newspapers is straight out of 1984.

Its not

Its a shitty pathologic ripoff that has absolutely nothing new

Nothing new gameplay wise, graphics are yet another fucking shitty watercolor high contrast pseudo artistic BioShock infinite tier ripoff, setting looks like another generic shitty "muh individualism snowflake" garbage narrative for redditors to compare to 1984 and brave new world (in an attempt to look cultured) because they and the developers have never read anything else

Fuck this shitty game it is the vampire weekend of games in how it is both inoffensive and pseudo intellectual / genericness thinly veiled by stuff people call "artsy" for.. some reason.
>>
>>341285791
I would play a vidya adaptation of Crispin Glover's "What Is It?" especially if they could get Fairuza Balk back.
>>
>>341282827

so, like everyone else who says this shit you've never read it then. I bet you think Fahrenheit 451 is about censorship too.

Terrible tryhard pseudo-intellectual validation seeking post.
If you want to feel smart pursue higher studies instead of being an elitist prick on 4chan of all places.
Most of the people you're being condescending with are not even 20.
>>
>>341285862
Because they don't know any better man. There are people on /v/ who legitimately seem to think bioshock invented the dystopia. The vast majority of people don't read at all, let alone reading anything that could be considered a classic. The devs are making a game that will have appeal and garner sales, they're not trying to paint the Sistine chapel.
>>
>randomly generated survival game
extreme red flag right there. the setting is nice at least, but it really seems like it's a lot more similar Sir, You Are Being Hunted than Pathologic.

Ok stop arguing for a sec.

The devs say they want this game to be "endlessly replayable," hence the decision to go with a procedurally generated environment.

But to me, it looks like the only options are "full on combat stealing food to live" or "stealth stealing food to live".

I can't bring myself to watch that obnoxious cunt Jacksepticeye, but has anyone seen any other gameplay videos with anything other than those two ways of playing? Because otherwise I doubt strongly that this game will have a lot of replay value.

I like the setting of the game, but I'm doubting it will keep me playing without something more to offer. Can't you get a job and play through that way, or something?

>>
>>341280408
So you just run around and people punch you?
>>
>>341288061
I might argue with you on that one too, though I see where you're coming from. I don't know that much about Watch Dogs, but a key component of Cyberpunk as I understand it is the whole misery of the underclass thing. In Deus Ex for example we see all the homeless etc in Hell's Kitchen being contrasted with people wealthy enough to buy cybernetic bodies, same thing in Ghost in the Shell. I don't get that impression from Watch Dogs, or at least not to that extent, but maybe I'm wrong, as I said I don't really follow the series.
>>
This game will attract nothing but Wes Anderson fans, ie people that think they're artistic but really aren't
>>
>>341288061
The "cyber" in watch dogs is barely present and mostly concentrated on people of influence(antagonist, protagonist, etc.) while the "punk" part is nonexistent.

In a real cyberpunk series the "cyber" is part of everyone's lives, not just the special snowflake hacker MC. You don't hack a street robot and everyone runs for their lives, the robot gets hacked immediately by 5 other people in the vicinity while fighting simultaneously offline and online, with both code and bullets(or plasma/laser/electric shocks, whatever suits you)

>>
>>341288445

Sure thing.
>>
>>341289018
from what i've gathered so far you have to manage three things

first two are hunger and thirst, water is easyish to find,

third one is suspicion, if you do weird things or break into homes, or if you're caught not being high on joy, people will hunt you down and punch you, like the guy in the video. Running raises suspicion, trying to talk to people at length raises suspicion.

seems kind of shallow right now since the only way to get food/water is by breaking and entering, and managing your suspicion seems pretty easy. I do like how you can push people though.

oh and you can lower suspicion by being high on joy (which makes everything look nice), but if you take too much joy you basically lose the game because you forget everything

from what i've seen, looks like a 3/5.

The most fake E3 gameplay trailer ever produced, bar none. The trailer sets it up as some high production value horror game, meanwhile the actual game is an open world survival shit-fest with crap combat, shit AI and hilariously bad visuals.

It might be good someday, but I won't be holding my breath.

Overestimating games just because they vaguely correspond to your taste and have a meme-English retro or steampunk aesthetic is the most fedoresque thing of all

>>341285464
Not being cynical here, to be honest. You're focusing too much on the tone, not enough on what I meant to say.
I love a good dystopia as much as the next guy, that's why I get pissed when people try to make a cheap one following meme formulas instead of trying to do something actually interesting out of it. Now it's just people "masks + vague totalitarian system + simple political message = 2deep4me".
Gaming has seen very good dystopias in the last 10 years and that's great - games that not only had stories that revolved around dystopic themes, but also included some of it in its mechanics; that's why I think it would be unfair to praise games that just want to get on the same train without much effort.
But of course, it hasn't launched yet. Maybe it will be better than the trailer suggested, I don't know; but for now it looks as cliche as it gets. If it's actually cool, I'll be the first one to take back what I said.

It's basically a game where some madmen has gotten the world hopped up on some drug that makes everything seem happy even though in reality they're having fucked up shit being done to them. That's why the man didn't take his pill and realized that they were bashing open some giant rat and eating its innards instead of playing with a pinata. The kid getting stabbed with stuff looked happy once the effects of the pill came back on.

You'll probably break out and try to take on the corporation that is creating these drugs. Seems like a pretty predictable story.

He's right, even more so. People just stopped caring about the idea of private info with the years. In an ideal state 1984 would be real, but, sadly, governments don't have enough money or desire to become like that. The tools and the notions behind their use are the same though.

he wrote the book in 1948, in a period briefly after World War Two had ended.

Notice how the book goes on at length about rationing and propaganda? Orwell was living it, so he made a caricature of it taken to the extreme. The book was published in 1949.

Obviously he couldn't just call it "1948", so he reversed the last two numbers. Now you know.

That's just a demo they released with no story on purpose. The actual story is that Germany successfully invaded Britain in WW2 and Britain had to do something called the "very bad thing" to repel them and everyone is drugged up to forget what happened. Apparently the protagonists are a group of bad people trying to escape.

The only Orwellian like govermenr or even public activity is the new system in china that gives its citizens a score of how good a citizen you are. It also brings down the score based on the score of people you associate with on facebook.
Oh and it is also the equivalent of an american credit score so you use it for loans and job interviews and the like.
No other country even comes close especially not any western country.

I'm probably buying this game, but as everyone already mentioned it's completely unimaginative. Two scenarios for la big twist are:

The big bad thing everyone did to survive the Nazis was eating the children to survive then fighting back. This seems pretty heavily implied already so not much of a twist. Nonetheless in the game you slowly discover gory details until the big reveal by some secret society of "downers". Moral of the story: just let Nazis take over next time.

OR

The main character is actually a sperg running away from a mental clinic and you go through the entire game thinking everyone out to get you is evil and the world is the way the character sees it when he doesn't take the pills. In reality, the world is what it is when he does take the pills and assburgers is making him see it distorted. Ending scene him getting dragged away back to the mental clinic.
