They should really port Nier if they're going to do that. I know Taro said you don't need to have played it, but having played Nier, I'd want everyone who's playing Automata to have experienced the first one so that they get why there's hype.

I fucking remember before the Automata announcement, the late night Nier threads consistently rocked. Always at night, and the only people who participated were there for the game. It was niche enough to not really attract shitposters. It was literally all story/character discussion with imagedumps as the threads came to an end.
Post Automata, this came to a swift and brutal end. Nier is probably the best story-driven game I've ever played. The soundtrack, setting, and characters just drew me in and I played it religiously to see what would come next. It was comfy, yet horrible and dark. It was charming, but ugly and vulgar. Then arriving at ending b just added onto everything I loved about the game in exceedingly meaningful ways.
It felt like because it wasn't a AAA project with a massive production value, it had the freedom to really be art. There, I fucking said it. That game is art. It went about its setting, story, and design decisions in a way that would simply not have been allowed in most modern games. Its visuals were dated and the combat was lackluster. It didn't look special or handle special. But what it did deliver on was uncompromising in the director's vision.
I couldn't fucking believe how hard this PS2 looking hack'n slash was hooking me in.
