but I literally just bought a console and despite having access to new games I've also realized how awful modern console gaming is because they force motion blur on you.
Why don't they let you turn it off, it adds latency and makes everything look awful.

MB just allows devs to hide poor frame rates and visual fidelity.
High quality motion detail requires strobing, which requires 120+ Hz to not have perceptible flicker as well as a matching 120+ fps render stream.
Consoles and consumer TV equipment are so far away from this it's better to just give up and go for "cinematic" motion blur.
