What the hell got Kratos to mellow out, stop killing everything he sees, and stay sane enough to start a family?
I'm happy for the guy, but he seemed like a uncurable ball of rage and death last time we saw him.

It's just a sequel, chances are Kratos became immortal or something after learning how to use the Hope contained in Pandora's Box, and after wandering he ended up in Norse Mythology. We'll surely see Athena again, as Norse Mythology had her equivalent in Vör (Áss of Wisdom).

There were 3 years between 2 and 3, and 3 years between 3 and Ascension. Ascension came out in 2013. Since the new one looks completely different style-wise from the rest of the series, it would have taken longer to make. I would ultimately guess at a late 2017 release, next E3 showing gameplay from somewhere around the middle of the game maybe.

He's frustrated, but he's also somewhat patient and even starts to console the kid after the kid's first kill. But this isn't surprising. The whole drive of Kratos's butthurt was his family's death. Pandora in God of War III reveals his softness is still in there, as does Ghost of Sparta and his guilt over Deimos. This shit isn't new.
