I don't know. I tend to dislike unnecessary censorship and the SJW-brigade(obviously, being on this board) and I've even been accused of having violent tendencies. But I struggle with understanding how people found old Kratos compelling. I don't feel as if anything he did in the trailer is indicative of weakness or whatever it is people are accusing him of, to me it just adds a layer to his character without invalidating anything he used to be.
This scene is a perfect example. The kid's just killed the deer and is obviously traumatized and/or conflicted about it. This would normally be prime "heart-to-heart" material, but instead of comforting him or having a talk, he just reaches out and hands him the blade, then segues into all the shit he's going to kill. Honestly i think this fusion of gameplay could work quite well. It just depends on how things progress from that point. I liked the inclusion of the stamina system while still keeping some of the spectacle fighting of the QTE and fighting big monsters. The story is honestly whatever, it could either be shit or it could be great but what i really care about is how it plays and i'd love for it to seriously pick up from that tutorial looking starting point.

Ellie in TLoU is effectively immortal aside from scripted cutscenes or if you go out of your way to run halfway across the map away from her, which will auto-trigger "a zombie grabs Ellie and you have X amount of time to go shake it off her or game over".
The rest of the time however, enemies will walk right past or even through her. Bullets and molotovs etc ignore her entirely.
There's no way to really balance it either. If she WASN'T immortal/uninteractive with the environment. you'd be getting Game Over every 3 fucking seconds from a clicker instakilling her. When she is immortal, it looks stupid to see Joel having to sneak painfully slow behind a clicker and crouch behind a desk, followed by Ellie running at full tilt through a pile of beer bottles that the clicker ignores. But if you tilt your stick just a LIIIITTLE too hard and take a regular step instead of a crouch step, all the clickers go REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and auto attack.
TLoU is *not* a good game for inspiration.

Joel never really teaches Ellie about survival because at first he doesn't give a shit about her and is literally escorting her, then as he begins to care shit hits the fan. He's literally in a coma in the deer hunting section you mentioned. Also the dynamic between father-daughter and father-son is dramatically different.
As for gameplay, again the TLoU segment is different because you're actually trying to hunt the deer without spooking it. It's basically a stealth tutorial because stealth becomes more important in the Ellie segment of the game. In the GoW demo the deer is just an excuse to go out and kill whatever-the-fuck those things were. The "tracking" part is completely scripted.
