Later on it's shown that Ares FORCED the madness that made Kratos kill his family, as a way to make him the perfect warrior that could take on the gods.
And it worked.
I knew this game would be dug up from its rest and ruined eventually.
The people did their best to hold it off by ending 3 completely and utterly with no room for a sequel, but it could only work so long.

The thing is DMC doesn't have competent level or enemy design. It's like a sandbox. Yes you have huge movesets and all sorts of random cancels and shit, but the only purpose they serve is for combo videos online. They don't add any depth to the actual game as an action title.
That's why the legacy of DMC3 and 4 are its arena mode, versus DMC1 which is well known for its OST, atmosphere, campy dialogue, and fun gameplay.
Despite DMC3 and 4 adding more stuff to Dante's moveset, DMC1 still has better actual gameplay because the enemies are far more competent and the level design is way better.

When I watched the video their relationship, to me, had the vibe of how a God would act towards their demigod--in accordance to Greek mythology that is. That being: fairly distant but at the same time there's an obviously established relationship. Devil Trigger has a lot of extra effects on top of the basic, hit harder, take less damage, such as DT Distortion.
Climax also is much stronger for much simpler inputs. Every attack becomes a boss stunning wicked weave.
