Now that the E3 Sony hype has died down, can we take a minute to talk about survival games?

Most of them are shit, but there are true gems hidden in there.
What are you favorites? Which ones have you tried and don't like?
Which is the best, definitive survival experience you can get?
My vote is for The Long Dark
>very hard
>difficult without resorting to enemies for challenge
>beautiful world
>deep survival gameplay and progression
>COMFY as FUCK

Spill your favorites, /v/

Subnautica is good. At least I thought it was before I realized it was actually a survival horror game for me. Why did I think it was a good idea to buy a game abut swimming in deep ocean? Why?
>>
>>341211532
Subnautica goes from "oh hey this is a neat coral reef with cute fish" to "oh Jesus Christ I'm way deeper than I thought what the fuck is that oh god I need air oh god oh god"

>swimming around
>find new biome
>start looking for resources
>run away from some weird sand sharks
>suddenly, hear a long, deep, rumbling groan that is loud and bassy
>what the fuck is that
>look around, see nothing
>go back to looking at sea floor
>it happens again, look around, see nothing
>really spooked
>it happens again
>look straight up
>see this
I about shat myself
Really glad these things aren't hostile

Project Zomboid is literally the best zombie survival game there is
It actually gives a shit about the survival, not just the zombies
>>
Long Dark and Don't Starve get my votes.
LD is challenging, rewarding, and actually uncompromising.
DS is easy to pick up, fun, and a time sink.

Both are Comfy. As. Fuck.

>while it's actually winter outside
I don't know which one is comfier but they each have their own merits
LD has such great sound design, and other features like being able to get behind things to deflect the wind and how walking into the wind slows you down, it really makes you FEEL the weather

It's not done but it really doesn't feel like early access at all
I've never seen a single bug while playing and nothing really feels like it's missing
They release updates semi-frequently that overhaul mechanics to good effect
I can pretty soundly recommend it even in its current state, there's a lot of play time to be had and it really doesn't feel like a typical early access game

Has anyone played neo scavenger? It looks interesting but I'm wondering how the survival gameplay is

>Stranded 2
Great game in general with a mod community that is still breathing, can be quite hard for new players but so rewarding in the long run.

>Cataclysm: Dark days ahead
Roguelike game with a very bloated item list. This is a game that has very simple UI but makes up for it with an incredible complex crafting and building system. Uses ASCII but also comes with many advanced tilesets/animations to keep you immersed.

>The Forest
Beautiful game graphics and creepy atmosphere. pretty good as far as survival games go with a decent static map and "locals" that will make you keep your eyes peeled.

others to have a look at.
Project Zomboid
Don't starve
Dead Island/Dying light (yes they are survival games)
Dwarf Fortress: Adventurer mode
>>
is there any survival games that focuses on building stuff too? i like long dark but i'd like a game thats not so much about surviving a harsh winter but rather a big world where i can harvest materials and build my own little hides and blinds from scratch and eventually chop down trees and build my own cabin instead of just finding one that's already built and full of stuff.
>>
>>341217647
Dont Starve is kind of like that, The Forest as well, but I don't know of any games in TLD's style of winter survival
The TLD devs recently released a roadmap that lists shelter building as a priority for updates within the coming months, maybe you can hold out for that
>>
the only "survival" games i have are memecraft, don't starve together and unturned, but dst is really good, also horrifying not comfy
>>
>>341217647
Dude, Unreal World.

You need to build a cabin to survive and store your stuff, you have to track/hunt for meat too. Fucking awesome game.
>>
>>341218687
Is that the one about surviving winter in Iron Age Finland?
>>
>>341214434
Amazing. The build you aim for will completely change how you survive each run. Pick up a few mods after a few vanilla runs for the full experience.
>>
>>341218773
Yup, if you can see past the graphics you get a really immersive survival game. It's all about getting your shit sorted before winter hits and ride it out if you can.
>>
>>341219912
I was interested in it before, it sounds mega comfy to me
What's the challenge level like?
>>
>>341220030
It can be very challenging when you are up against robbers, nerps, bears otherwise the game is pretty laidback. Your fatugue and hunger are critical to you doing most things so you are forced to gather and stock up.
>>
>>341221734
How does it compare to the long dark, if you've played it
>>
Don't Starve is the most boring game I've ever played.
>>
>>341222108
graphically different. but I'm not sure. Never played that one. I head it was getting a SP mode?
>>
>>341222679
What didn't you like about it?
>>
>>341222883
The Long Dark is only single player, not sure what you're thinking of
If you like hard winter survival I'd definitely recommend it
It's what the OP's webm is and some of the screenshots here

It's just about happily swimming with pretty little fishies anon nothing spooky going on. Definitely worth the $20.

It's early access still but what is in the game is good for a fair few hours of fun especially if you're going in blind. Pic related and content deeper than this is still in development but you can already explore the in development biomes even though they're currently devoid of much content. I love submarines and that's what bought it for me but they're also making a diving mech thing that can walk along the surface and drill mineral deposits, this and the smaller midget sub can both dock inside the pic related sub actually so you can carry them around inside for expeditions.
>>
>>341223065
But can you actually build stuff like cabins in TLD?
>>
>>341223273
No, but shelter building is coming in an update within the next 3 months, according to a recent roadmap they made

The largest ones aren't implemented yet but the sea dragon and sea emperor put the reaper to shame.

>>341224220
Yeah but they have the model already there. Thankfully the largest animal in the game wont be aggressive.

Ive had the game for months and played it once. Fuck

>>
>>341224487
It's definitely spooky although it can't harm the cyclops and once you build the seamoths perimiter defense module thing you can zap it if it tries to bully you. The sea dragon can swallow your seamoth whole and crush it in its mouth but at the range you find them the seamoth really isn't viable because it's way below its crush depth.

When will this be in subnautica?
>>
>>341225249
One of the logs of the survivors from a previous ship mention a "They" so they might. "They" don't want them in the ocean and there's some weird thing that made them slowly become unable to live on the island. One of the survivors also has a thing where she's constantly trying to go deeper.
>>
Also this is an enemy that isn't finished yet: http://subnautica.wikia.com/wiki/Warper

Shit's gonna be real spooky once it's finished.
>>
This War of Mine is my favorite so far. It's comfy until it becomes super fucking depressing.
