I'll be okay with it. Link has always been nothing more than an avatar for the spirit of the Hero and, videogames wise, an avatar for the player. Link is cool and all, but he's not actually a "character", so to speak in the same vein as Mario who, despite being basicvally "mute", is given a very distinct personality and an italian stereotype nationality. Link is just, well, a hero, except for righteousness, he express very little in terms of character.
tl;dr, because of that, Giving the choice between a female or male Link makes sense to me, it actually fits the original mold of Link being a player avatar. Unlike other characters like Samus, Mario, Pit, etc who are given personalities so to speak and backstories for the most part.
Now what I'm more dissapointed in is that if they want to go down the "giving LOZ a female protag, why don't they finally give us that Zelda centric game where you can perform cool magic and transform in a sick ninja?

Well I think it costs them like almost nothing to move a few polygons around and make Link a girl.
And I don't think anyone would not buy a game because there is an optional female character, plenty of popular games have that like Fallout and other rpgs.
