This will finally be the year, r-right guys?
>>
>>341148354
Memes aside, why is this such a highly anticipated title?
>>
>>341148354
What is this? Something to do with light waves?
>>
>>341148354
Yes
>>
>>341148748
Because it was supposed to come out.
>>
>>341148748
its not anymore
>>
Yes.
At the sony conference for some reason.

Don't worry it will obviously not be a sony exclusive.
>>
>>341148748
Half-Life 2: Episode 2 ended on a cliffhanger, and it's now been 12 years since the last full-fledged Half-Life game.

It's honestly just the myth of the thing at this point that keeps it anticipated. Basically, this is just becoming the modern day Duke Nukem Forever.
>>
>>341148902

Technically, though, Half-Life 3 was never announced.

Half-Life 2: Episode Three was officially announced, but then it was all but confirmed to be canceled on numerous occasions (e.g., Valve claiming that they no longer make single-player games, etc.).
>>
>>341148354
Exclusive to PS Vita
>>
>>341148748

It used to be.

Now games that were announced during Episode 3's announcement are being released.

Yes. You just have to believe.
>>
>>341148748
go play HL1 and HL2 and then try asking this stupid question
>>
>>341149395
I have. They were fun, but not mindblowing.
>>
I would even take Portal 3

I'm that desperate
>>
>>341149580
and you dont want to know what happens to Gordon and find out who Gman is?
>>
>>341148354

The cliffhanger at the end of Half-Life 2: Episode Three was annoying, but I'm not sure why anyone cares anymore. The story was never that great. The best parts were those left to our imagination (e.g., the Seven Hour War) and we've all had time to accept the fact that the storyline of the series since Half-Life 2 was written like that of the TV show Lost, i.e., with no real direction except the philosophy of keeping the audience hooked with questions instead of answers, with mystery for the sake of mystery. You were never going to find out who the G-Man was. In reality, he's the convenient "deus ex machina" plot device that ends the game by kidnapping Gordon Freeman when the writers run out of material.
>>
>>341148748
see duke nukem forever.
It's literally a meme that's overhyped it to the point that Valve is too scared to even start developing it.
>>
>>341148354

In case you haven't been paying attention for the past few years, Valve have gone full Jew lately in every single thing that they do.

At no point are they actually going to develop new games because that takes entirely too much effort.

At this point, they are just going to keep tweaking Dota2 and CSGO and make zillions of dollars every year selling skins that other people make, selling keys to unlock CSGO crates, and skimming a healthy margin off of Steam.

They can literally coast for the next ten years and they'll make more money than enough money.

Why would they exert effort of making a new game when there is no incentive to do so?
>>
>>341150175
except valve is a far better developer, and HL is a far better game than DN
>>
>>341150387
>except valve is a far better developer
10 years ago maybe. Not anymore.
>>
Isn't this year Valve 20th anniversary?
>>
>>341150276
You're implying that the only incentive to be creative is money.

Unfortunately, this may be true with Valve, but if so that's a sad fact.
>>
>>341150387
Better developer than who? And Duke 3D was a solid game.
>>
>>341149734
I do, but again, it's not a desperate thing, so I want to know how much hype is purely memeing and how much is legitimate interest.
>>
>>341150387
They used to be. A lot of the people that worked on hl2 are leaving valve. The writer left early this year and I think two more have dropped recently
>>
>>341148748
cs fags being cancer as usual.
half life 2 was the most overhyped dogshit on earth.

Turns out Valve made HL2 Episodes 3-74 but forgot to release them.
>>
>>341150571
that's interesting the majority of the PC gaming scene seems to disagree with you seeing as how their games (even old ones) are still among the most played with the denses online populations

In b4

>there are hundreds, possibly thousands of half-life fans who have died waiting for a sequel
>>
>>341151580
No, because I expect desperation for more to come from a mindblowing experience.

So what about the Half-Life series is so absurdly good that has people desperate even a decade later?
>>
>>341148748
every half life game is excellent
its not really anticipation for the game much anymore, its just that the meme gets thrown around at every opportunity
when people say ep/hl 3 they usually dont even mean it in a "the next installment of the half life saga" way but in a "game that never came out" way if that makes sense
>>
>>341151690
My friend, we'll all probably die while waiting for this sequel.
>>
>>341151734
>What is liking something
Some people desperately watch my little pony? I don't find in mindblowing in fact I find it as faggotry, but I can understand that SOME PEOPLE MY LIKE SOMETHING THAT I DON'T REALLY FIND THAT INTERESTING.
>>
>>341152157
So what you're saying is that it's overhyped?

>state half life is not mindblowing
>proceed to ask what made half life mindblowing
If you need a hint as to why Half Life 2 is great, perhaps start with the dev commentary.
>>
>>341148354
Doesn't Gabe deliberately delay this every time someone makes a "Can't count to three" joke?
>>
>>341152398
Why yes, I didn't find it mindblowing, so I'm asking what I may have missed that has others so rabid for more.
>>
>>341152393
Rightfully hyped for me, overhyped some others, some people don't thing it will live up to it's expectations, some wouldn't even mind the same engine as long as the story continues.
>>
>>341152676
Did you go into it with the hype in mind?
>>
>>341153012
No. Heck, I was even pleasantly surprised by it and enjoyed it.

But I don't see myself dying for more a decade later.
>>
>>341152676
You're deliberately making this conversation as difficult as possible. Don't think for a second that I'm unaware that you're trolling.

If you played the game, you didn't miss anything. There's nothing hiding. See my post again; the dev commentary is revelatory of Valve's (then) eye for level design, technical skills, and recognition of the importance of thorough playtesting.
>>
>>341153269
...I'm trolling because I liked a game but not as much as you?

Come on.
>>
>>341153268
Then your initial question was answered, I believe: HL3 is so hyped simply because it's been so long. Think Prey 2, Duke Nukem forever, etc.

The fact that Left 4 dead, Portal, Team Fortress, and (technically) Counter Strike all had games ending in "2" and stopping before three didn't help things either.
>>
>>341153445
Someone likes the game more than you?? OMG?? What if there are more people like that??? WHAT
>>
>>341153716
Not that guy, but he's only asking why this very good game has the absurd, rabid fanbase it does. That's pretty much it.
>>
>>341148748
You can't put memes aside. It's not anticipated. It's a fucking meme in itself.
>>
>>341153716
And I wanted to know why, what about the series resounds with so many people to such a degree, or if it's just overhyped and overmemed. Something being overhyped doesn't mean it's inherently bad, either.

>>341153695
I guess I just look at things from a different perspective, then, because as time goes on my hype for things that aren't coming dies.
