Bethesda and Zenimax tried to fuck the devs of the original Prey 2 to death, leading to it being abandoned.
Now instead of Mass Effect meets Blade Runner where you play as a bounty hunter in a uniquely designed city with interesting alien races we have a generic horror game.

Probably because some people liked the weird bounty-hunter U.S. Marshall in an alien city and using parkour to chase down targets thing Prey 2 had going.
The new Prey probably seems redundant to them what with both a System Shock 1 remake and System Shock 3 looming over the horizon, when that's what it mostly resembles.
To be fair, I think the new Prey will be System Shock: Shooter with Horror Aspects Edition whereas SS is usually Horror with Shooter Aspects.

I will say that it was a smart choice in the publishers eyes. They wanted money from their product, but thought a sequel to a game from the beginning of the last generation would flop. I never played Prey, my friend told me good things about it though. Either way, I have no cares for old Prey, canceled Prey 2 or new Prey. I do hate how this industry runs. Can't rely on big publishers because they're looking at their pockets at all times (micro transactions and 100+dlc) and you can't rely on indies that much anymore either because they can't deliver half the time. Is gaming going to die soon guys?
